Chav Music.....

Part of me has the growing feeling that SKA is becoming the new music of Chavs.

Why? Well The Streets have certainly got a passing nod towards SKA and The Ordinary Boys definetly fall into that category.

So, is SKA to be tarnished with Chavness?

Debate....

In many ways it's inevitable. The Casuals, and the associated terrace culture had more than a passing nod to the mod revival of the late seventies and early 80's which then encompassed 2 tone and ska (proper ska and 2tone have enough differences that I make the distinction between the two). From the casuals culture emerged the Chav, Bestriding the Commercial road like a colossal waste of space.

I actually read a book last year on the origins of Casual and Chav youth culture. Whereas the majority of youth culture’s emerge associated with a musical sound and collectives getting together based around music venues whereas Casuals were based around football matches and the football violence of the 80s. I’d be happy to lend it to you if you are interested.
