GenCon UK - Day Tickets???

Hi folks,

Does anyone know if GenCon UK are selling Day tickets this year? If they are how much are they?

There website seems to be utterly useless and there's absolutely no way I'm paying the money they want for the full convention PLUS accomodation fees. Despite my extremely negative expectations surrounding this years event I'm thinking of popping down for a day to check it out and see if they can prove me wrong for 2006 or beyond.

No, not as far as we at BITS can establish. It's either GM 7 events and get in free or pay the stonking £75.00 for 4 days including the 16 events that gets you.

We have some volunteer GM's who can come down for maybe one or two days but so far we have no mechanism for getting them in.

GC last year involved paying to get into Butlins then paying to enter GC as far as I remember.

Are you going?

Apparently (according to anotehr reply) it's £25 for a day pass + the cost of Butlins pass which you need to get into the complex!!!!

Bloody steep for a days visit (but then the whole thing is bloody expensive).

I'd really like to come down for a day to catch up with people and also see what the convention actually is like atm. I hear the horror stories and I guess I'm a sucker for wanting to know if it's just hyperboil or how bad it actually is!

I _think_ you could buy a day pass on the door last year, but it also involved buying a visitor pass for Butlins. It'd be good to see you though, if you do make it down!

I know anyone who has not got accomodation on-site needs to buy daily 'Bultin' passes to get onto the site.

Just don't know about the GC day passes (or how much either pass is!).

I'd like to attend (for a day) just so I can see first hand what the organisation is actually like and also to catch up with a few people.

Twenty-five smackers for a day pass.

If you come on Sarturday you'll be able to play three Millennium Moon LARPS back to back for you money though!

£25!!! F**k me! Plus you'll then need to pay for a Butlins visitors pass to be allowed into their complex. Don't suppose you know how much one of those is do you?

If I come down it won't be for gaming. I'd like to meet up with a number of people and scout the organisation out to see just how they are running things.

Taken from http://www.ukroleplayers.com/viewtopic.php?t=417

1 - Day Badge - £25 (4 Generic Tickets, inclusive of Butlins Entry)

More details at http://www.consupport.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=427&whichpage=4

Me, I'm going to Conception in February. Bognor Regis is about half an hours drive from me, but £25 just to catch up with some friends and browse the trade stands, no way Jose!

Unfortunately this may be the last Gen Con UK :(

Maybe Peter will revoke the license if the current organisers are hurting the brand so much and loosing him lots of money (I believe he is still underwriting it for them which I feel is a mistake - they should have something to loose and might do a better job of it!).

I would hope that Peter does indeed withdraw the license and then that would allow a more competent group to put in an offer to run the show in future years.

Don't bother, let it die. It's a shame but it's their own fault.
If gbsteve is running his alternative SteveCon, I'll be attending that.
There's always Dragonmeet in December.

As has been made clear earlier in the thread, the £25 includes entry to Butlins....

And to the best of my knowledge, the organisers have their houses and businesses on the line... no sugar daddy in the US!

And yes, I will be at GenCon working my socks off so I won't pay either accommodation or entry and I'll play a freeform every evening.

You'd really have thought they would have planned things better if they had that much to loose.

Not only have they annoyed a sizable amount of the attendees but they've also put off many of the traders that would normally turn up. Plus they've outright lied to the charity organiser claiming the Trade Hall was full and they couldn't fit him in after saying that he had to pay for the stand, etc, like any other trader (that would have put him into a loss so the charity would not get anything and he'd have to fork out his own money to cover the difference).

The organisation, as far as I can tell, has been a shambles. Apart from anything else we've not been approached since around April time to see if we're interested in attending as a business (or if they can make a deal with us) which considering we're one of the top stores in the country and attended every single GenCon in the UK apart from the 2004 one is quite surprising.

If the guys behind it loose everything that is there own faults after last year and what looks like this year. They should have listened to their punters (both attendees and exhibitors), priced the convention in a budget people could afford and looked for a location which was more accessible. Plus they should have advertisied and spread the word more!

I hope they don't loose everything but I do kind of hope the license is revoked so another team can try and make the show into what it used to be.

Ah, so it's GBSteve of Yog Sothoth fame that's behind that! Would definitely be up for attending one day of that, if not the two.

As it is, am going to try and make it up to the regular SteveCon this weekend, if not to play at least just to catch up with what's what in gaming.

There's one this weekend? And I can't make it...
The format of the GenCon alternative isn't clear yet as it's usually only one day and considering the response on rpg.net, they might need a different venue...
