Thanks to gmskarka for the link to this article. I'll also steal the following that GMS also copied on his blog for your attention:
----------
"The fastest growing religion (in terms of percentage) is Wicca -- a Neopagan religion that is sometimes referred to as Witchcraft. Numbers of adherents went from 8,000 in 1990 to 134,000 in 2001. Their numbers of adherents are doubling about every 30 months."

The survey points out that figuring numbers on the pagan population is notoriously difficult, as it is an "underground" religion, whose proponents often keep a very low profile to avoid attacks from an uninformed public....so in other words, the numbers above are most likely lower than actual figures.

Also interesting to note a 9.7% drop in those identifying as Christians over the past 11 years.

What proportion of respondents were disaffected teenage goths looking to wind up their prents?

I agree that it would be more interesting to see how many stick with the faith or if they are just "dabbling". Likewise how many are to Wicca the same as most Christians are to Christianity (weddings, christinings, funerals, Christmas and that's about it).

I'd have to see some mighty powerful stats to be convinced of that and if it's true I would posit that it's because a lot of people of other faiths (such as Muslims) have entered the USA in that time so the overall percentage has gone down...
