Unusual foods.....

Not having much to think about apart from the eating squirrels thread I was wodnering what the weirdest/most unusual meat you (non-veggies) have eaten?

I think mine must be chocolate coated giant-ants from Colombia. They were a decent size and actually tasted a bit like marmite. After eating them I remember going into the back garden the next day and catching a regular ant to see if they tased like marmite too.

They did.

Well as I don't like marmite I'll avoid ants - thanks for the tip.

From Calumn - Earthworm - not sure of the taste but I guess it was chewy given the way he pulled on it.
Might have been better cooked and without soil!
(he was 18 month old at the time)

My grandmother's neighbour apparently observed me pulling up earthworms in the garden when I was about 18 months old!

Not sure whether I ate them, but if I did I can't remember what they tasted like.

Other than that the weirdest thing I've eaten is shark and frog's legs, which aren't really that weird...

The strangest things I've eaten I cannot properly identify. It was while working in Central America. A thing that looked like a cross between a giant Rat and a Coypu. Its skin was later hung on the wall of where I was staying (still have a picture of it), as were most other things - that way we could just point to the wall for the kinds of things we wanted to eat that night.

Roasted aligator with passion fruit gravy. It was tasty.
