(Goth Watch) Guardian Article

dodgyhoodoo found the following article in The Guardian this morning.

Back in Black (The Guardian; Friday 29th September 2006)

It was quite amusing to read but I would have expected more from Dave Simpson as some of his comparisons are a bit odd. I've also never heard the term 'zombie goth' - which is apprently the 'latest sub-genre'. I think he might be talking about Deathrock here but who knows... :p

indeed, the sub-genres he came up with are odd, and no mention of the much bigger German market.

I also was amused at the comments that were made about Whitby :p

Well, Whitby is a bit "seaside" compared to the bigger festivals in Europe.

Emoths
I think goth is about to be hit by the curse of the Emo kids!

I last year I spotted emo-billies in camden - mostly girls, who are obviously basically emo, with a hint of 50's chic. Now it sounds like we've Emoths! Thank fuck they have moved away from the NY punk look.

I'm guessing that all these people are really into is the vague black, lacy look and not the music, so I doubt they'll be turning up trad goths nights any time soon.

"Zombie-Goth" was really brought into the lime-light by Rob Zombie a few years ago, if it's the same style that I'm thinking of.
I really sinister and dark Goth alternative to monster rock I guess.

I think the article may be referring to the more 'Zombina & The Skeletons' and the so called Deathrock scene which includes bands like Devilish Presley and Bella Morte and such like.

Although I tink it's a naff title and the bands don't really have anything in common (a little bit like called bands like All About Eve through to Creaming Jesus 'Goth' actually...)

I saw them supporting at a Zombina gig. Put it this way: so not goth I didn't even bother writing them up in my gig review aide-memoire book.
