Hobbit Goes Ahead Without Jackson (BBC News Online; Tuesday 21st Novembe 2006)

(Also, it sounds like they have the movie rights for the Silmarillon - good for falling asleep too I guess :p)

In other news, I'm still in the world of the living. Just been very busy and also had Rosie down from Leicester since Friday until this morning so haven't been online. Will try and post more later. Hope everyone's well. I'm not sure if I'll be able to catch up with everyone's LJ posts for the last 4-5 days though. See ya!

No Jackson will also mean no other attached writers and special effects crew so whatever the others do will look and feel inherently different, which is a big shame.

The Hobbit's a very different feel to Lord of the Rings, so not necessarily a disastrous move. And Jackson's trilogy is vastly overrated anyway (well, TTT and ROTK definitely).

The Two Towers was my most hated/biggest disappointment. Return of the King was just meh. Which is all a pity really, because Fellowship I thought managed to combine being a great fantasy movie and genuinely capturing the spirit of the book.

I have a feeling that this prequel to Lord Of The Rings that people have been going on about is actually The Hobbit and not a seperate story, because they talked about doing the Hobbit in two parts and I didn't think the rights to The Silmarillion or Lost Tales have ever been made available by the estate.

As for The Silmarillion being good for failing asleep to, then yeah I suppose so. If you like failing asleep to massed battles between High Elves, Legions of magically armoured Dwarves, hundreds of Balrogs, Dragons, Vampires, Werewolves, Krakens. Elves being nailed above the the gates to massive monster breeding pits, vast cities hidden in mountain ranges, werebears, love, treasure, betrayal and THE BIGGEST FUCKING SPIDER EVER. Oh, you mean the first chapter? I reckon they'd do that in about 5 minutes with a voice over... Lol.

G'ah, a Silmarillion film could be as cool as erm Stormbringer.

"Jackson, a devoted Tolkien fan, said he had been removed from the Hobbit project by New Line, who also hold the rights to a second Lord of the Rings prequel." (from the BBC article)

The plan is for a movie set between the hobbit and LOTR.
