This one seems to have taken quite a few people by surprise. Serenity was very, very good - but better than Star Wars?

Hmm... apparently so...

Wow. Serenity's a mediocre movie based on a mediocre series (and a vast disappointment to me based on previous Whedon stuff)...

I really don't think that it that much of a surprise in the light of how bad the prequel trilogy was compared to the original trilogy. Perhaps it's because George Lucas can't charactise or write dialogue?

I do think Star Wars has been tarnished by the three steaming piles of poo Mr Lucas decided to slap on the front.
I'd pick Serenity over the complete 6 part thing, but the original 3 movies over Serenity.
On the other hand I'd pick Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind over both of them, but I'm special.

I thought Serenity was damn near perfect. I hadn't seen much of the series (only the pilot) so can't speak as to how well it presents the series on the silver screen, but as a standalone film, I definitely put it higher than Star Wars. (Granted, that's as a film. Star Wars presents a much richer, deeper cosmology and mythology but I do not factor that into my assessment for many reasons.)

More proof that 95% of polls are bollocks fronted by stuff that's fresh in people's memories rather than stuff that truly lasts. Don't get me wrong, Serenity is great, but Empire Strikes Back is better than both Serenity and Star Wars... Still, the article will make an amusing read.

I'm not at all surprised at Serenity winning, but how did Planet of the Apes score so highly?

I'm guessing it must be the original Planet of the Apes movie - which, in fairness, was very good.

Film fans have short memories. Serenity was good, but it wasn't better than Star Wars, and it certainly didn't approach the heights of greatness that are occupied by Empire Strikes Back and Blade Runner.

In about 2 years time the Wheadon Zelots, will stop smoking there crack pipes and watch the movie again.

I think Weadon could have filmed a dog shitting for 2 hours and his fan boys would have still voted it the best. Some of them are an embarasment to the uman rqace.

All I can say is it was OK, nothing fantastic, nothign ground breaking and really nothing to masterbate over. If you want a darn good Si-Fi, May I direct you to the 'Children of Men.'
