The Future Is Here...

One of most prolific and exciting 'science fiction' and 'futuristic' things for me as a kid was the flying car.

I loved the idea and concept.

Well, welcome to the future!

'Flying Saucer' Nears US Take-Off (BBC News Online; Thursday 30th August 2007)

Limited production starts in the next few months and costs a lot less than I'd have imagined ($90,000 / £45,000) for the initial launch. This will be followed-up by the 'Skycar' in about 6 years time which should be able to rise 6000ft / minute and travel at around 400mph!

Wow. Very cool.

Licensing will be interesting. And.... whatever department it is that sits around and makes laws for roads will probably have fun making up rules for these as well. Can you legally pass on the outside now? [Meaning can you pass on the right in the US, on the left in the UK?] Seems safer than passing on the inside. But then sometimes there are trees over there....

I'm scared. It's so futurey. I remember when dad brought home our first microwave and it was as big as a small house. And then dad's first mobile, which was almost as big as a modern microwave. I'm going to get myself tattooed in cameleoflage and hide til the future's over.
