Da Dentist

Went to the Dentist and, as I half suspected, the nerve in the tooth that I had quite a bit of treatment on last year is calling it a day and dying.

What this means for me is a trip (or two - depending if I want a two hour session or a couple of one hour sessions) to the dentists next week for some root canal work. Oh, plus £400 for the treatment and then another £500 for the cap in a few months time.

C'est la vie.

Semi-sort of good news (for me anyway) is that I seem to be totally over my fear of dentists and even the thought of injections in my mouth aren't worrying me one bit (the bill on the otherhand...ahem).

I hate injections (I guess it's a mild phobia - they even had it listed down when I had an operation to give me a pill as a ore-med to knock me out before injecting me) but I know it's all psychological. I never had a dental injection until last year (I used to just let them drill without any meds when i was a kid and teen) and when they gave me that they gave me something to numb the area first. Didn't feel a thing. As long as they keep doing that I'll be happy (well as happy as you can be at a dentists anyway!).

Anyway, the pain is a lot less today (my nerve is sleeping) and I'll hopefully have it removed in the next few days.

Ouch, good luck with all that.
I was lucky as a child having a really nice dentist and remarkably strong teeth.
Mind you, I have a dentist trip due for a week or so's time,
so I may well join you in both pain and poverty shortly :-)

Ow! Dentists I can handle, injections of all kinds are another matter entirely.

And dental bills another matter again :-/

You want one session, man--trust me. ;)

I look forward to the day I can get all my dental troubles fixed. Cursed heredity.

I've this thing where the nerve in my jaw that they aim the injection at is not where it's supposed to be. Queue multiple injections in order to numb the pain. :(

Where in your mouth is the problem tooth?

I recently had to have a tooth removed because of major nerve problems. It was either yank it or spend several hundred pounds like you are on treatment. I opted for the removal since the tooth isn't in the front.

That sounds like a very long time and a ridiculously high fee. Are there some bizarre complications? Dental work is expensive, but not that expensive. I suggest possibly getting a second opinion on the cost of that work.

I've had enough dental work done that most of the fear has gone away. The main stress is not being able to swallow when they're excavating in there; plus the blow to the wallet afterwards.

(Actually, in case it helps - most of the dentists round here have gone on to a thing called Denplan, which is a monthly sub a bit like insurance that covers all your ordinary dental work. Might be worth enquiring if there is anything similar that'd let you spread it out.)

owch!
On both the pain issue and the money issue.

That is a big hurt to both your mouth and your wallet.

good luck with the treatment. Sounds like you've overcome youre phobia though which is great.

slightly off topic but did you get the videogames live comments I sent you ?
