Old Friend
It seems that Blake 7's return has only now 'officially' been announced. So I guess me mumbling about it for the last 8 months was jumping the gun a bit. Ahem.

Anyway, the announcement has finally been made by Sky for two hour long programmes in preparation for a full series if it goes down well.

Blake's 7 Poised For Sky Comeback (BBC News Online; Thursday 24th April 2008)

(crosses fingers) Now please, let them do it well . . .

And it'll be interesting to see if Servalan remains as strong a character as she was twenty-seven years ago.

Shame that it is on $ky.

Indeed, for those of us who don't have these new-fangled imaginary channels.

Does Angus know whether it'll be framed as a remake or a sequel? A big part of what makes the originals pop is Paul Darrow's Avon, and they won't have that. The stories were intermittently clever too, and they won't have Terry Nation... but I suppose done well it could be "the British Firefly". Well, I suppose the original already was.

Given the amount of time that has passed since B7 was last on our screens Angus reckons you'll see a retelling of the original story arc.

Of course this has not been officially announced so it's purely Angus speculation you understand...

"Sky is working alongside Blake's 7 Productions, a subsidiary of Blake's 7 Media who owns the licence to the show."

Well, they would.

One imagines that this is not a random coincidence...

Well lets hope they still have the old stage set available, and the cassette recordings of Orac's voice. Wouldn't be Blakes 7 without!

They've been mooting this on-and-off for at least eight years you know.

I won't believe it until I see it.

Interesting... The recent audio dramas weren't bad, but perhaps were a tad too homegenous. I'm surprised to see this come to fruition, 5 years after B7E took the rights and began throwing their weight around by ruining the extras on the BBC original series DVDs with their veto.

Seriously, it would be good to see B7 redone with some ACTUAL special effects...and Angus, if this does happen and becomes popular will you be going for the RPG licence? Just a thought :-)
