Ouch... Poor New Labour...

Labour came fifth in the Henley by-election yesterday - down from third place at the last Henley election and with an 11% drop in votes. The Conservatives won (which was predictable as it's a very safe Tory seat) with the LibDems coming second followed by the Green Party, the BNP and then Labour - who lost their deposit.

John Howell: Conservative 19,796
Stephen Kearney: Lib Dems 9,680
Mark Stevenson: Green 1,321
Timothy Rait: BNP 1,243
Richard McKenzie:Labour 1,066
Chris Adams: UKIP 843

In other news last year 62% of people thought Labout would win the next general Election and the same survey now shows that figure has falled to 16% with 67% believing The Conservatives will be the next government. The same poll said that 21% felt that Gordon Brown was a liability to the Labour Party when he took office a year ago - that figure now stands at 61%.

Gloomy reading for Labour, although their overall rating has now gone up to 28%, whilst the Conseravtives have dropped 1% down to 46%. The LibDems aren't doing very well either - dropping 3 points down to 15%!

Rough times ahead I feel...

I don't care how bad New Labour are. The fact that more people in Henley support the BNP is, frankly, disgusting.

It's frightening how many votes the BNP are getting :-/

They've gone from being the party that people brush off as a bunch of Nazi headcases to a viable election choice in local and the Mayoral elections...

Basically they have changed tactics. These days the BNP campaigners I meet on the streets and when telling at the polls tend to be dapper, older gentlemen of reasonably good manners who somehow seem to generate a veneer of respectability and calm.Often you have to remind yourself of the utter shit that they stand for.

Ironically the stereotypical BNP supporter covered in tats with a skinhead who seems to ooze the threat of violence seems more inclined to vote UKIP/other generic England for England party...

DOOOOM!
Hehe, yes Henley, home of the Regatta and Tim Nice But Dim. Staunch Labour strong hold.

What makes me laugh is that nobody actually knows what the tories policies are. I made the effort to read the BBC News analysis and it looks like rough times ahead for the those who don't want to be nuclear families. The number of Alt types who fail to realise that under a Tory government they are seen as part of the whole social breakdown of Britain is astounding.

It's already started under new labour, but they'll do nothing about it, not even when the Dev gets shut because it's a nuisance to those living in the new apartments next to. Or when Torture Garden gets shutdown because it falls under the new violent pornography rules.

As for the BNP, I'll try and dig out the photograph taken by ANTIFA of senior members marching in Moscow under the Russian Swastika.

Frankly the country is kidding itself if it believes that the Conservatives are going to do anything other than 5 more years of the same...

While its great that the voting is showing up the general discontentment, its a shame that Brown seems to be getting all the blame when most of the current shit stems from Tony's premiership.

I think that its time for New Labour to loose, but its a shame that their replacement seems to be the Conservatives using Indekit party politics and fuck all in the way of policies.

I especially like their party politicals promising to spend, spend, spend, while simultaneously promising to reduce the tax burden on the general population (because y'know they have a track record for failing to keep that promise already)...

TBH I have given up caring, if the population want the same shit under Cameraon, let them have it, of course then we spend the next few years living in a shithole thats getting worse, watching voter apathy errode the only viable alternative until we eventually get down to one man, one vote... And I suspect that man will be...

Meanwhile other countries have wet dreams about getting a free election and the ability to go cast an anonymous (or even less annoymous) vote without fear of getting raped, burned or killed for your efforts.

All this just seems to show that a) our political choices are crap these days and b) people have short memories and are not very sharp (since New Labour has just been a continuation of Thatchers monetarist economics which are still also dominant in the Tory party, there will be zero real difference in electing either either Labour of the Conservatives-its just cosmetic).

I just wish there was a party seriously addressing the excessive influence of monetarism (which is utter garbage economically and responsible for a lot of the problems we are in now) and of big business. Time for a major bit of constitutional reform so that we might actually get to live in something vaguely resembling a democracy I think.
