Georgia

Hmmm... Russia are now bombing Georgia's main international airport in Tbilisi and the UK has now changed our advice to UK citizens over there to get out now unless you have urgent and vital business in the country.

Seems, unsurprisngly, that Russia are taking this further than just a "peace-keeping mission" in South Ossetia...

I fear this is Russia coming to sort out their rebellious children.

Russian troops now in Abkhazia and Russian naval units abroad.

Ukraine is also threatening Russia with not allowing their ships back to base.

If it doesn't cool off this could go much wider.

All we need now is a tac-nuke being let off and we have a Tom Clancy novel.

My thinking is that this is a clear display of Russia's attitude towards its old subject-states. Georgia tries to consolidate its own borders which include the separatist-run South-Ossetia and the Russian's come storming in on the pretence of preventing ethnic-cleansing.

Worrying, very worrying. Europe is very dependent on the goodwill of a very tetchy Russia.

I wonder how much lower-level actions get turned a blind-eye to 'foster amity' between Russia and Europe.
