I never knew that Placebo had created a cover of Kate Bush's classic "Running Up That Hill" but apparently they did a couple of years back. I heard the song on the new Daybreakers movie trailer and immediately went in search of it. Found a good fanmade video of song too (thus this post).
Placebo make the song their own, with a more haunting and dark style. love it :)
I've posted this before but since then I've got more friends here so I'll post it again.
This is one of my all time favourite songs from one of my all time favourite bands. Conjure One with Center Of The Sun.
Conjure One are one of the many side projects from industrial gods Front Line Assembly (Delerium, the band who had a #1 hit with Silence a few years ago, are another). Conjure One are definetly on the more commercial end of things but their music is pure beauty.
The video that goes with this song is another fan made affair - taking clips from the anime 'Metropolis'.

Two great things about todays video post.
Firstly there is the band - mind.in.a.box are, in my mind, one of the best futurepop bands around today. They've been going since 2001 but I only really started listening to them properly last year when I was in Belgrade (Serbia). Since then I've brought all their CDs and they are one of my most listened to bands in the last 12 months.
Secondly is the video. This is a fan made video to the song using clips from Immortel Ad Vitem (which is based upon a series of graphic novels by one of my favourite comic artists and writers - Enki Bilal) - a French film (although largely filmed in English with a bit of Egyptian). Watching the video really makes me want to dig out the dvd and watch it again actually.

Metric's new CD "Fantasties" is already a strong contender for this years Album of the Year in the world of Angus. It's a brilliant CD that I've played loads since picking it up earlier this month. "Help I'm Alive" is the first track on the disc :)

....and what do you know. I found an old video of Ugly As Sin (see previous post)!
I was one of the very, very few who seems to have known this band. I saw them live a few times and had an old 4 track demo cassette they gave away at a gig. Which I think was the only thing of theirs - beyond maybe a 7" or 12" single - I had.
Anyway, here is a not particularly great sound qaulity video of 'Terminal Love by Ugly as Sin.
I remember going to a gig of theirs at The Marquee with Mike Roache (who the Monday Night drinks team will know as he was at the last Catcher meet-up) and seeing tickets on sale for a brand new band who were having their UK debut gig the following week. We recognised the name from Kerrang and other rock mags who were hyping them but had never heard of them but thought 'What the hey!' and brought tickets.
The following week we got to the venue and the que was the biggest we'd ever seen for a Marquee gig and people were offering us ridiculous amounts of money for our tickets. Needless to say we both headed straight in to see the band reckoning they must be fantastic. Sadly, although many people did seem to enjoy them, I thought they sucked. I saw them again in 1995 at Wembley Stadium supporting The Rolling Stones and still thought they sucked. They were a band called The Black Crowes (which it suddenly strikes me many of you might not have heard of if you're under 30!).

A bunch of us in sixth form really got into a fairly unknown band called 'King Swamp'. The Common Room stereo was continually hi-jacked by us anyway and King Swamp got probably more than it's fair share for a while. They were fantastic live but sadly didn't make it past their second album.
I found the first, self-titled, King Swamp album on vinyl in the late 90's (I only ever had it on cassette and lost it many years ago) and found a copy on CD yesterday which should be winging its way to me in the next week or two.
Listening to the blow track, Blown Away, reminds me slightly of INXS - who were also pretty popular in our sixth form and drinking circles at the time.
Anyway, I just found a King Swamp video on Youtube for the first time. It's not a great quality recording having been taken from the TV back in 1989 I believe. But it gives you an idea of what they were like. Now all I have to do is find some Ugle As Sin and InAura videos...

Angus is leant new Maple Bee CD 'Home'.
Angus is told it's KatieJane Garside's little sister (KatieJane of Daisy Chainsaw and Queen Adreena fame).
Angus thinks he owns another of KatieJane's sisters albums.
Angus listens to Maple Bee.
Angus recognises voice.
One quick wikipedia search later and Angus has it confirmed that Maple Bee is actually Melanie Garside whose Fossil CD (circa 1996) is one of his most played CDs.
Angus is pleased he has now discovered Maple Bee :)

I was never really into the Foo Fighters until I heard this song round a friends house a few years ago.
Admittedly it was partially "the time, the place, the circumstance" that made this version of the song really strike home but I fell in love with it and will admit it was played several times that evening.
I like the regular version, but the acoustic rendition is my favourite version. The words seem so much more poignant and it really shows the power and quality of the lyrics.

EDIT: I now really want to learn guitar so I can learn this song :)

contemplative
These are two if the reasons why Queensryche were/are one of my favourite metal bands. Used to love them back in the days that time have now forgotten.
Queensryche - Silent Lucidity
I've always loved Scarborough Fair as a song and find it quite haunting. Queensryche's acoustic version is, in my opion, a brilliant rendition of the song.
Queensryche - Scarborough Fair (Acoustic Version)
I also love the Medieval Babes version of the song and managed to find it on You Tube to share as well. I wish more old medieval traditional songs were brought to the mainstream by popular bands of today.

I bumped into a guy called Harry at a recent gig who works as an A&R guy for Virgin. We spent a fair amount of time between the bands and at the end of the nigth chatting about music, the pressures on young bands, up-and-coming scenes and a variety of other things.
One artist he mention to me at the time, which I hadn't heard of before, was a band called La Roux (Not Le Roux which is another completely different band I mistakenly found whilst searching for 'LA' Roux on YouTube :p). He reckoned they'd be up my street (having just been through a discussion about female-led electronic 80's sounding bands) and after listening to their current single 'Quicksand' I think he may have a point.
They've also be shortlisted on the BBCs 'Sounds of 2009' - the Top 15 of which will be announced and counted down from 5th January - which is always an interesting list which I've covered here in the past and will no doubt be passing comment on again. The list is comprised by over 130 music critics, journalists, DJs, etc and looks at the bands that they reckon will break through during the next 12 months. They've hit the nail with a whole host of bands before covering as wide a range of music styles as 50 Cent to The Killers to Duffy.
Anyway, La Roux are definite proof (if any was actually needed anymore) that the 80's sound is back in full swing be it in the form of dark and moody melodies or synth driven pop.
Here's the video of La Roux's new single 'Quicksand' which was released last week.

A couple of people have raved to me about the Sohodolls in the last few months and this evening I finally got a chance to listen to some of their stuff and check out a video or two.
I *really* like them.. and not just because the lead singer really reminds me of an a rather fond ex (I had to really check their bio to make sure it wasn't her). Sohodolls Mypsace
Anyway, here is...
nemesis_to_go 's LJ. Project:KOMAKINO Myspace
Project:KOMAKINO - Exodus
Incidently, the Sohodolls are playing SIN in London on the 6th December at the IAMX Afterparty club night (IAMX are playing The Astoria across the road beforehand)... anyone up for a double bill?
hirudo I think I spotted on your LJ a while ago you were already planning that? You def going ahead? Care if I join you? :p

Whilst I'm filling everyone's pages with more video clips I also thought I'd post a Project:KOMAKINO video I found. This is another band that came up in the thread about 'new' non-scene goth bands recently on Project:KOMAKINO - Exodus
One more from the 'new goth' scene before I have to really run and get to Gameforce...
Ipso Facto - Harmonise

So, not goth then?
(Thanks to
nemesis_to_go , the NME and a few arguements with people about the new ermerging goth scene that most goths would never have heard of).
Many of the bands are reminiscant of *very* early post-punk/goth bands. Very raw
KASMS - Taxidermy
A.Human - Black Moon
Televised Crimewave - Kids
A Place To Bury Strangers - To Fix The Gash In Your Head

I'm not in the least bit ashamed to say that I love Rihanna. I didn't get the slightest bit bored of 'Umbrella' when it dominated the charts in the summer of 2007 and I loved the duet she did of it with The Klaxons and also the cover that the Manic Street Preachers did of it. I think it's a brilliant song. Indeed the albumn is constantly on my ipod and gets shuffled in every so often breaking up the Indie/Rock/Darkwave/Industrial/Trance/EB M dominance that exists there.
Anyway, as all good housemates can attest to, I am also very fond of Disturbia which is from her latest album. The video is fantastic beyond the fact that I also really like the song. So I thought I'd share. I'm hitting you guys and gals with it here as well as over on radio_infinity which I really need to pay more attention to than I am currently doing.
So, here is Rihanna's "Disturbia"...
I hope you all had a good weekend and are refreshed for the new week ahead! Good night!

Does anybody have any Kidney Thieves or Snake River Conspiracy CD's they could lend me?
I don't have any (yes, major oversight on my part) and would really like to hear more of both bands.

I've not posted this for probably a couple of years atleast although it's one video I tend to go back and watch a lot on YouTube. It's a fanmade video using clips of the Metropolis animation to the music of Conjure One.
Now Conjure One are one of my favourite bands. The two CDs they've produced so far are probably amongst the most played albums I have brought in the last few years. As with two of the bands other projects (Delerium and Front Line Assembly) I find their musical irresistible, magical and invigorating.
Anyway, I wanted to share this video again. So here you go...

Music, music, music - one of my oldest friends. How I still love you after so many years. How you are always there to put a smile on my face, to reflect my emotions and to inspire.
Yep. This is another "Angus posts some music vids he likes" post :p
Just heard the new 'The Kills' song from their forthcoming third album and I LOVES IT. I've never really listened to The Kills before but might have to take a look into their earlier material.
This is 'U R A Fever'

I also saw Bjork's new video this evening. "Declare Independence". Now Bjork and myself go back many years - actually back to the 80's when she was in the Sugarcubes and I was just a schoolboy. She has produced some phenomenal music over the years although our paths have parted for the last few years and I've not picked up her last couple of albums after finding one of her outtings completely unlistenable (admittedly I only gave it one listen and should try and find it for a second chance all these years later). Anyway, I don't think Declare independence is her greatest work by any means but what really struck me was that she's kind of gone industrial with it. I could imagine Nine Inch Nails doing this song...
Now for an old favourite of mine. House of Love were a fantastic band and had some great melodies. My favourite was always "Shine On" which I bounced to at many a club back in the late 80's and early 90's. I still play it loud (and sometimes on repeat) today as the song just strikes such a chord in me. I also heard a great cover of this song by a goth band called Evereve on Friday night at Inferno which I have to track down.
OK, so I seem to be in a bit of a music mood today. I know I should be really getting my head down and ploughing through a whole host of outstanding emails but I deserve a morning off and can do that after lunch as I'm not doing anything until this evening (film night at Ray and Alex's - yay! :p).
Anyway, Pendulum is another band I recently discovered and really enjoyed their 'First Contact/Signs' video of mankind realising they are not alone.

The Sounds are a Swedish band that have been around for a few years now. They play a brand of New Wave punk/electronica and have been compared to bands such as Blondie (and not only because of the sound I'm guessing as the lead singer is a hot peroxide blonde :p). They've started gaining popularity a bit more in the UK now and I heard about them last year (I think) and think I may have posted another of their videos before. This time round we have ' Tony The Beat (Push It)' which shares some similarities with another Swedish band - the brilliant 'The Knife'.
Make Model remind me of an old 4AD band (name escapes me at present) but that is no bad thing. I guess they could also be compared to bands such as Arcade Fire. Definetly got 80's influence in here though. This track is called 'The Was'
Another new band with a very good video is Big Face with 'Style Crusader'. The video is a work of art and apparently took 9 days to shoot. I can see why though. See for yourselves...
That's all for now. Need food and then on with some work :)
Have a good weekend folks!

This might come as a surprise to many people considering the types of clubs I go to and the crowd I'm usually seen with but NinjaTunes have been one of my favourite labels for over ten years now. They have had, and got, some of my favourite artists in their ranks - like The Herbaliser, DJ Food, Roots Manuva, Mr Scruff and absolutely fantastic Cinematic Orchestra.
I heard a new track last night from an artsist called The Bug. I'd heard of them before in the music press but had never actually heard them. Anyway I really enjoyed the track and upon looking into them this mornig it turns out they are yet anotehr NinjaTunes artist.
The video is good too, featuring a ruined future society and seeing the ruins of Big Ben at wround 2.10.
Anyway, I'm sure this won't be to all of your tastes by any means but here is The Bug featuring warrior Queen with Posion Dart...
