It's that time of year again. The Oscars have taken place and now it's time for the ever-important ANGSCARS!
So important in fact that I seem to have completely missed doing them last year for some reason (I think it was probably because I was moving house and didn't have internet connection around that time - so sorry 2007 films!).
Anyway...
In the time honoured tradition (well I did it in 2005, 2006 and 2007) and to coincide with the 81st Academy Awards (aka The Oscars for the uneducated :p) I bring you the ANGSCARS: Best Film Award 2008!
The ANGSCARS were founded after a Poll based upon the Oscars Best Film Award that I ran only received FOUR VOTES because many of my Friends list claimed not to have seen the nominated films! In dismay at the uncultured friends I have I ran my own awards ceremony based upon my own Top 5 Films of the previous year which had a much greater success rate. 2005 saw a tie in first place between "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" and "The Incredibles", with "Lost In Translation" coming in a very close third. 2006 (which saw the number of votes cast almost double) was also very close but "Serenity" pipped "Sin City" by one vote (34 to 33) to get the glory. "Batman Begins" scrapped into third place with 8 votes. The third installment saw a very tight fight between "Children of Men" and "V For Vendetta", which "Children of Men" won by just one vote (26 to 25) with "Munich" a far flung third place with 6 votes.
So this is the 4th Annual Angscars. Voting is open now and will run for a few days before I wrap it up and announce the winners. As an additional prize everyone who casts a vote will be entered into a prize draw. When the ANGSCARS are announced I will also pick a lucky voter from a hat (or more likely a pint glass or mug - hey, I'm classy me!) who will then win a DVD of his or her choice from the ANGSCAR nominations list.
So without further ado - This years Award Nominee's, in alphabetical order, are as follows:
Poll #1354310 Best Film 2008 Award
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All, participants: 83

Hi folks,
I'm pleased to say we had a really good turnout for this years ANGSCARS: Best Film 2005 Awards! There were a few cases of duplicate voting (some by accident but at least one case I believe was someone voting from two of their LJ accounts - tut tut). In any case the final vote would have remained and it was a very, very tight contest between the leading two films right from the start.
The ANGSCARS 2005 BEST FILM AWARD GOES TO.....
SERENITY - 34 Votes (44.7%)
The other results were:
SIN CITY - 33 Votes (43.4%)
BATMAN BEGINS - 8 Votes (10.5%)
CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY - 4 Votes (4.5%)
VANITY FAIR - 1 Vote (1.3%)
Also the winner of the DVD of their choice from the five nominated films was none other than .........
faerierhona ! Congratulations! Please email me on angus at cubicle7. freeserve. co.uk with your address and which DVD from the above five films you would like to receive as your prize!

Well, it seems that a lot of you lot aren't cultured and haven't seen ANY of the Oscars nominations for best film! (Shame on you all).
So I've pulled my favourite five films from 2004 and am creating the Angscars Best Film Award.
So, please vote on your favourite from the below (In the feeble hope you may have seen some of these!):
