Virtuality: For Sale/SOLD

I'm in the wrong line of business.....

Gamer Buys $26,500 Virtual Land (BBC On-Line News; Friday 17th December 2004)

And the sad thing is he'll probably make a fortune from it!

Although you get the feeling that if he's shelling out $26,500 for fictional plots of land then he's probably not struggling for cash anyway.

Bastard.

Lordy. I own stock in the company that provides their online transaction network, and so shall be receiving my cut from that sale in due course.

About 0.00000000000000001p, if past experience is anything to go by :)

I don't know. This sounds - to me - a lot like the Internet boom where people thought that .coms were somehow going to tap into an enormous stream of money that was just waiting out there to be grabbed.

Money which turned out not to be there after all.

Or maybe like in 1637, when some Dutch bloke thought it made good business sense to sell an entire town house in Amsterdam for a single tulip bulb.

Which turned out to be not quite as valuable as he'd thought.

At the end of the day, it smacks to me of someone taking a small statistical trend and extrapolating it into absurdity.

Course, he'll probably go and prove me wrong now. :)
