(News) US Conducting Iran Missions

Seymour Hersh, the journalist from The New Yorker magazine that uncovered the abuse and torture at the Abu Ghraib prison, has written an article claiming that the US has been runnign covert operations inside Iran since last summer gathering intelligence and potential targets.

-----------
Hersh quotes one government consultant with close ties to the Pentagon as saying, "The civilians in the Pentagon want to go into Iran and destroy as much of the military infrastructure as possible."

One former high-level intelligence official told The New Yorker, "This is a war against terrorism, and Iraq is just one campaign. The Bush administration is looking at this as a huge war zone. Next, we're going to have the Iranian campaign."

Troup numbers

It's as if these self-same civilian people in the pentagon never look at their own troup numbers... The ones the are dieing, being injured, deserting when they get home, taking the government to court to stop "Stop Loss", etc. The recruiting of vast swathes of Reservists and reciently starting to bring old soldiers out of retirement. If they really want to be amazingly politically suicideal and go into Iran for another "hot war" (having far from finished off the last one) there will have to be a draft and I don't think it will be as easy as the last time...
