Fun, Fun, Fun

Great night. Great company. AND Vanity Fair is just as great on it's second viewing.

MUST pick up the DVD as soon as it comes out.

Night, night folks.

An Evening In (Scandal!)

I'm planning on staying at home this evening. I need to make a few phone calls and also do a little bit of work. I should also have a night or two in to reign in the spending whirlwind which has been Angus recently.

I've had several fun nights out this week (thanks to all involved!) and have Dave's (daver2323) leaving do on Saturday night and the Poppies on Tuesday so have fun things to look forwrad to. A Very Long Engagement also comes out this weekend (by the same team who did Amelie) so a trip to the cinema is inevitable (plus I want to see Closer, Elektra and another film I can't remember the name of).

I'll be posting up details of Dave's leaving do this evening and also emailing people who don't read LJ or might not notice it (but of course you all 'read' my journal so I shouldn't really worry :p) but please leave Saturday evening clear for the tearful goodbyes to commence.

Four years and soon no more Dave or Uncle Gabby for me :(

Songs in The Key of Z

In our continuing quest to listen to at least one utterly appalling CD a week at work we have turned our attention to this little gem....

Songs In The Key of Z Vols 1 & 2

The only problem is I'm not finding it totally appalling. It is great in a really screwed up, out of tune, and amusing way. This double CD set has 39 tracks from such well known artists as The Shaggs, Jack Murdurian, BJ Snowden, Thoth and Bingo Gazingo & My Robot Friends. I only recognise one artist on the whole thing which is Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band.

Some of the tracks actually sound like they could be from the Indie scene today, even though the music is dating back decades and then some. I'm almost tempted to buy myself a copy. But then I should really be shot. Painfully.

...and the Earth changes (Details of changes to the Earth after the Asian Quake)

I was told that the Earthquake over in Asia on Boxing Day caused a slight 'wobble' in the earths rotation by my mother shortly after it happened. I didn't read any reports on it however, until today. NASA has confirmed that the North Pole has shifted slightly, the day is now shorter and the shape of the Earth has changed. Sounds frightening stuff but it happens quite a bit (read the example about the Three-Gorge's dam in China in the following article....). ...the news has finally broken. There will be a RPG released based upon Firefly called Serenity. No official press release as yet but it seems to be being freeing spoken about on some forums. I haven't gotten a release date for it as yet but it should be grand. Our very own Andy Peregrine (corone) has worked on it too. Congrats Andy!

Dave's Goodbye Drink

As many of you know daver2323 is moving away from London, returning to snowy, cold, Scotland. A few of us are getting together this Saturday (22nd January) to say goodbye and have a last night out with him until he hopefully pops down to visit every so often.

We have a table booked at The Devonshire Arms in Camden. It's the table by the door I believe. Anyway, we'll be gathering about 7pm for drinks and laughter. If you'd like to come along then please do. I don't know what time we'll be finishing/kicked out but it won't be too early :-p

Friends Friends

I don't know if this works for people without LJ Paid Accounts but it's certainly an interesting function for Paid Memers. Go to your Friends pag and basically type in an additional 'friends' after the one already in the URL so it looks like this http://www.livejournal.com/users/YOURUSERNAME/friendsfriends

This will generate a list of all of your Friends Friends LJs (not duplicating those you are already friends with). I've been using it on and off since I got a Paid Account and have found some interesting stuff up there - it's also how I found out about the BBC News feed. I also discovered today that we can actually reply to the news feed and start up conversations about the topics which will no doubt now consume much of my ranting time. This was discovered by accident I think as none of the feed posts had a single comment until this evening and the one about Bush's 'liberty agenda' provoked a response or two :-p

Anyway, this evenings 'staying in' has worked very well. I feel relaxed at home for the first time in ages and may even try and get on with some writing later after I've tried to clear some of the backlog of emails which have built up.

Tomorrow night I think I'll also be staying at home and then it's the hunt for the NIN tickets on Saturday morning and Dave's goodbye drink in the evening.

This week has been very good. I've had some great company, great chats and saw one great and one not so great film on the Silver Screen. 2005 is definetly pleasing so far. May it continue for another 49 weeks.
