Old Friend

Oh, the power of sleep evades me....

Hmmm.... not sleeping and not sleepy. 4.28am and although i techinically have the day off tomorrow I have been asked if I can go in if possible. Thus I should really try and get some sleep.

Had a really nice evening tonight and am not drunk in the slightest despite several soutehrn comfort and cokes at the pub followed by more at home (with a glass or so of some rather nice red wine). I do need to get some shut-eye though. It's only fair and I should get as much sleep as possible before the weekend.

Did accidently delete a couple of emails from the server before actually reading them but have contacted the people who sent them so 'hopefully' will receive them again. For some reason my 'spam' filter on my remote server is not putting the 'spam' in the junk folder so I'm having to sift through everything and delete it before downloading to my PC. This is annoying, especially considering the amount of spam my email address gets. It's also the reason why I lost these two mails. Grrr.

Anyway, think I'll get into bed and do some reading. That way I'm guaranteed to fall asleep and wake up tomorrow with the light on, the book splayed across my bed all crumpled and have glass imprints all over my face as I fell asleep wearing them :p

Did I say I had a really nice evening?

Thank you loads! xx

Er, yeah, right....

Congratulations!!!!!! You are an underground
goth!!! You take pride in the fact that you are
the only one who listens to the bands you do
and you stop as soon as someone else likes
them, because popular=shit! You hate mainstream
stuff so much you are anti-mainstream!!! You
are so fucking unique and original, I don't
even know how you found this quiz or are on a
modern day tool such as the computer!!

Email Woes

My email seems to be playing up.

I can receive mail but it's not letting me send anything out. So if you have mailed me I'll either try and leave secured LJ posts directed at you, try to phone, try to do something on my remote server or cry.

Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what's gone wrong sooner rather than later though.

For now, I have to go to work to cover peoples lunch break for a couple of hours. I'm too good to those guys you know ;p

LJ Supermaze Game

borusa has come up with an interesting time-wasting game which, apparently having time to waste today, I've just tried out.

The idea is to choose one of your interests and then select someone with that same interest at random and try and find your way back to your own LiveJournal by using their Friends.

To reiterate borusa's actual rules
What you do is select an interest from your list, then choose someone you have never ever heard of who shares it. Your mission is to navigate back to your own journal by clicking from friend to friend.

The aim is to get as low a score as possible, and you get a point every time you click a link. You can't go back though, so just getting "home" is the real acheivement.

You get bonus points taken off if you go through someone whose location is in Australia. This is known as "being caught in the Strine-trap", and it can be markedly difficult to escape.

Added rules

1) After the initial jump (which can be done from a shared interest, or less-interestingly from random user) you must navigate only by using friends list (not friend-of).
2) You can't go back to a user you have previously visited unless there are no other options available to you.
3) Using communities is cheating, and will get you sent to Norman-No-Mates, who lives in Iowa.
I'm fairly please with myself as I managed to get home in nine moves, which is pretty darn good - expect to be travelling a long time if you make the wrong choices folks!

The interest I choose was 'Skinny Puppy' and my route home (which only took me to America and Canada) was as follows:

Interest: Skinny Puppy

leapielee (North Carolina, USA)
devoidofthought (
Ontario, Canada)
intravenous (?)
harmony314 (

Nazi and Communist Imagery

Some of the Euro MEP's have proposed banning Communist symbols, such as the hammer and sickle, as well as Nazi symbols claiming it's only fair to ban both if one were to be banned because of the suffering caused under the Communist regimes in many of the member nations countries.

This has made me think as I really don't want to see communist imagery banned (to be honest I don't think it's right to place an outright ban on Nazi imagery either) but both systems caused many thousands of deaths and bad conditions for many who lived under them. I do view the Nazi's in a very different light though and I guess this is hypocrisy on my part, and on many others.

I am more than happy waering communist symbols on clothing and indeed many use its symbols (or those of its heroes) in fashion these days. Yet the regime was just as bad as the Nazi's. In essence it was worse as it lasted far longer and has spread to most corners of the world. Yet we seem to happily embrace the imagery of one whilst villifying the other.

Why have we embraced the Communist symbols and heroes (such as Che Guevara) so readily whilst the Nazi regime's peronalities and symbols have become taboo?
