Lordi - Masters of Europe!

Well, what d'ya know.

Lordi have actually won the Eurovision Song Contest! The Monsters of Finnish Rock stormed the scoring and it was pretty clear that there was no catching them. They ended up winning by a clear 50+ points I believe.

Fantastic.

I'll love to see what the press says about that over the next few days and also intrigued to see if this changes the style of entrants in the competition next year. Especially considering how well Lithuania's unorthodox Eurovision entry did as wel! Good on them! :)

I'm also now £90 better off courtesy of Ladbrooks - which is an additional bonus!

Although I think it's all accounted for by the people texting me saying the drinks are on me and also glaelia out for a meal!!!

I spent the evening in the very fine company at Mr and mrsdominic's Non-Eurovision Gathering along with zenmeisterin, civi, Claire and Eleanor, We watched Doctor Who, ate pizza and then cheered and sneered at the Eurovision contestants and the scoring later on. I think everybody was happy with the result :D

Ah, twas a good night indeed...

"We are a rock band and we just won Eurovision - that's weird," their lead singer, also called Lordi said.

"This was a victory for rock music and also a victory for open-mindedness," he said.

The result would open the doors for a wider range of musical styles at Eurovision in the future, he predicted.

"This is proof that from now on there will be more rock bands who will have the courage to join in," he said.

"This is proof that there are rock fans who watch Eurovision."

American Media Once Again Shows It Has No Idea What "Goth" Music Is...

I've been wandering around various international news sites to see what the reaction is to Lordi's win at The Eurovision last night.

Generally speaking it's been really positive.

I was understanding that they were a ROCK or METAL band, but according to CNN they apparently have a large GOTH following.

"Saturday's showdown was broadcast live in 38 countries to a TV audience estimated at 100 million. Some 13,000 fans packed the indoor arena used during the 2004 Olympic Games, from Goth supporters of Lordi to cowboy-hatted Germans supporting Texas Lightning. Some 3,000 police officers were on duty for the event." - Monsters of Pop Take Eurovision Title (CCN.com; Saturday 20th March 2006)

I must say seeing the band go up on stage and collect bouquets of flowers was certainly a Kodak Moment :p

The Press Conference of The Winner (Eurovision.com; Saturday 20th May 2006)

Eurovision TV Meets Mr Lordi (Interview - pre event) (Eurovision.com;

“Kids love us. We look like their toys.”

What is Mr. Lordi scared by? After a long pause, “That’s a good one… Horses, I think. They’re so big.”

“You know, we are meat eaters in a vegetarian café,” said Mr. Lordi when asked how the band feels to be in Eurovision.

eurovision.tv: Your first monster was the animal from ‘The Muppet Show’. What kind of things did you play with when you were a child?

Mr. Lordi: Not when I was a child – I still am a child. I still collect Muppet’s toys. I played with Star Wars figures, with Masters of the Universe figures, well, monster figures. I loved little spiders, dinosaurs.

Lordi Toys?

So, how long do you reckon it'll be before we see a range of LORDI figurines from either Todd McFarlane or some other company?

This years 'Must Have' Christmas gift?

Will Lordi now go on and conquer the world?

Lordi on Myspace...

Lordi, unsurprisingly, have a MySpace account (let's face it - what band "doesn't" have a MySpace account these days???).

Anyway, I've just friended them and added Hard Rock Hallelujah to my own Myspace profile :p

What are the odds of me making a non-Lordi orientated post this weekend???

hehe...  xx

As spotted in their comments section:

and this was the image I was looking for earlier... it seems just "wrong" somehow :p
