Old Friend

Blair & Bush's chat...

I'm sure many of you have heard/seen the remarks that were caught on film during a break at the G8 summit in St. Petersburg between Bush and Blair but I thought I'd copy it up here aswell. It's a shame Blair noticed the microphone was on and switched it off as we could have had more juicy gossip and maybe a few elusive knitting tips...

In Full: Bush and Blair's Unguarded Chat (BBC News Online; Monday 17th July 2006)

Bush: And thanks for the sweaters - I know you picked em out yourself...

Blair: Oh yes absolutely - in fact I knitted it!!!

Bush: What about Kofi Annan - he seems alright. I don't like his ceasefire plan. His attitude is basically ceasefire and everything sorts out.... But I think...

Blair: Yeah the only thing I think is really difficult is that we can't stop this without getting international presence agreed. I think what you guys have talked about which is the criticism of the [inaudible word). I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is, but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral.

Bush: Yeah I think Condi's [US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) gonna go soon.

Blair: Well that's all that matters but if you... You see at least it gets it going.

Bush: I agree it's a process...I told her your offer too.

Blair: Well it's only if she needs the ground prepared as it were. If she goes out she HAS to succeed whereas I can just go and...

Bush: You see the irony is what they need to is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's all over...

Blair: Dunno... Syria....

Bush: Why?

Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing...

Bush: (with mouth full of bread) Yeah

Blair: Look - what does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine. If you get a solution in Israel and Palestine. Iraq goes in the right way

Bush: Yeah - he's [indistinct]

Blair: Yeah.... He's had it. That's what all this is about - it's the same with Iran

Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Assad and make something happen.

Blair: Yeah

Bush: [indistinct] blaming Israel and [indistinct] blaming the Lebanese government....

Metric - Live It Out; Forward Russia Give Me A Wall
Old Friend

Thank you for the music...

I've had a host of CDs delivered in the last few days and haven't really had anytime to listen to them. I'm going to take a handfull into work tomorrow but some of them aren't really suitable for work - either because of the occasional naughty word or just because the music won't be to everyone's tastes.

Still, it's been interesting to finally hear Sufjan Stevens "Come on feel the Illinoise" which I've been meaning to pick up for what seems forever (I can't even rememebr the person who originally told me about it! I think it may have been Delphine last year!). I also managed to listen to Metric's "Live It Out" and Thom Yorke's solo album "The Eraser" which is very good.

My Nouvelle Vague CD should also be arriving later this week after being delayed for over a fortnight! The regular edition has been available for the last 2-3 weeks but because I preordered the limited edition version (it had extra tracks) I've been in withdrawal symptoms and trying not to read anyone else's thoughts on the new CD!

Looking forward to Wednesday as I have another (at the moment) rare day off. Have a busy list of things to try and fit in though so it'll be an early start and late finish for me I reckon. Talking of which I have an early start tomorrow so better wrap things up, watch an episode of Battlestar Galactica and have a quick read before getting some shut-eye.

G'night folks!
