The Prestige & Saturday Afternoons...

I went and saw The Prestige this morning with weaselbitch, Narissa and Dave. Starring Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, michael Cain, David Bowie, Scarlett Johansson and Andy Serkis (amonsgt others) and directed by the very talented Christopher Nolan (Momento, Batman Begins).

The film is set in the late nineteenth century and is centered on the feud between two magicians who were originally apprentices under the same teacher. It is a must for anyone who enjoys the late Victorian era or stage magic and is very well done. I was surprised to see David Bowie in it (he plays Nikolas Tesla) as I really didn't know he was in the film and was also surpised to see that I once again thought that Michael Cain turned in a very good performance (the other this year being in the brilliant Children of Men). If he keeps this up I may have to reprise my attitude to him as an actor!!!

I really enjoyed the film and will admit that I didn't see the twist coming. I thought I had the 'twist' all figured out partway through the film but no, it dd kind of catch me off guard. I thought all the actors put in good performances and the direction and production of the film was very well done. I can't wait to read the novel now as I picked it up last week on the strength of the synopsis.

I won't say much about the film itself as I don't want to spoil it for people. Go and watch it yourselves!!!

School Report: B+ (Although that might very well rise as I think more about the film :p)

Anyway, after the film we all decdied to head over to Nando's for a spot to eat. I'd never really met Dave or Narissa before but have said 'hello' to them for well over a year now as they are technically my neighbours (they live almost opposite my house) and I often see them on way to work. We had spoken about meeting up but never seemed to arrange anything so when I bumped into them en route to the see the same film this mroning it was a perfect opportunity to hang out a bit. They're both lovely people and should be coming out to the pub with a bundle of us on Thursday all being well. We're also planning DVD nights soon which, if at mine, I'll let you guys know about too if you're in the area. It's nice to have two new possible friends living so close! :)

It did mean that the afternoon has vanished though (as we ended up doing the 'continental' idea of lunch by chatting for hours taking up valuable Nando's table space :p) and I have to now start getting ready for the Conjure One gig this evening at Slimelight. I must admit that if it wasn't for the fact that Conjure One are playing I may very well have decided to bail on this evening. But I think that might have more to do with just having eaten a lot more than anything else - although it is quite dark and windy out there now...

All in all a very nice day so far, and the entertainment has only just begun!
