The ANGSCARS: Best Film Awards 2006

In the time honoured tradition (well I did it in 2005 and 2006) and to coincide with the 79th Academy Awards (aka The Oscars for the uneducated :p) I bring you the ANGSCARS: Best Film Award 2006!

The ANGSCARS were founded after a Poll based upon the Oscars Best Film Award that I ran only received FOUR VOTES because many of my Friends list claimed not to have seen the nominated films! In dismay at the uncultured friends I have I ran my own awards ceremony based upon my own Top 5 Films of the previous year which had a much greater success rate. 2005 saw a tie in first place between "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" and "The Incredibles", with "Lost In Translation" coming in a very close third. 2006 (which saw the number of votes cast almost double) was also very close but Serenity pipped Sin City by one vote (34 to 33) to get the glory. Batman Begins scrapped into third place with 8 votes.

So this is the 3rd Annual Angscars. Voting is open now and will run for a few days before I wrap it up and announce the winners. As an additional prize everyone who casts a vote will be entered into a prize draw. When the ANGSCARS are announced I will also pick a lucky voter from a hat (or more likely a pint glass or mug - hey, I'm classy me!) who will then win a DVD of his or her choice from the ANGSCAR nominations list.

So without further ado - This years Award Nominee's, in alphabetical order, are as follows:

Poll #935146 Best Film 2006 Award

To Do....

Heroes, NIN, Hot Fuzz

Heroes Episode 3
I'm really enjoying this series. I won't say much about it as it's only up to Episode 3 on UK's Sci-Fi Channel and many of my friends list won't have seen it unless they have satellite/cable or have downloaded it from the web. Don't want to spoil it for you guys. Watch it when it hits BBC2 this autumn!!!
I particularly liked the end scene this episode :p

NIN
Been listening to a few of tracks from Nine Inch Nails forthcoming 'Year Zero' album. It sounds like it'll be a really good one and they've certainly done tons to build the support network up for it. I'm wondering how much they'll be previewing during the current crop of gigs. Guess I'll find out next week :p

Hot Fuzz

I saw Hot Fuzz on Saturday. It was good but not what I'd call great. I thought Shaun of the Dead was a much better film. Hot Fuzz certainly had loads of laughs and I did enjoy it, but I felt it was missing something. I really enjoyed the last 15 or so minutes though :p

SLA Industries Storms The Top 20!

Cubicle 7 recently released the back catalogue of SLA Industries as PDFs and also added the brand new Cannibal Sector One to the sites in the last few days. We also made the first edition of the SLA Industries RPG available as a free download on both RPGNow and DriveThruRPG - so far in excess of 750 people have downloaded the freebie too which is pretty good. We also currently have four titles in the RPGNow RPG Top Twenty list! At numbers 6, 7, 8 and 12!

All this is down to the hard work of Dominic McDowall-Thomas and John Dodd who've been seriously putting in the hours to get the books online. We have two more books to be uploaded from the back catalogue and then next up is some more new stuff.
