Old Friend

,,,and the river flows...

...down the street?

Although we don't actually have a river within a mile or two from us. Although that's never stopped nature before.

Finchley High Street is a bit, er, submerged at the moment. Not as bad as much of the country was a couple of weeks ago but it's worse than we've had for some time.

Plus the front of the shop is leaking. One of the buckets collected 4cm of rain in 15 minutes coming through from somewhere by the till.

I've not been down to the basement yet. Our basement is very close to the water level and with any amount of heavy rain quickly fills up. It's one of the reasons we don't use it for anything apart from high shelf storage .

Anyway, better go and check the buckets...

oh, and NOW the thunderstrom starts! Great...

EDIT: Those Victorians worked wonders - as soon as it stopped raining all the surface water round here (well most of it) has vanished into our great Victorian sewer system and left the roads nice and dry.

The front of the shop is still a bit damp as is the basement but all is currently well. Apparently some parts of Finchley which are lower lying are still a bit pondlike though.
