Old Friend

The Independent Gary Gygax Obit by Ian Livingstone

Ian Livingstone (co-founderof Games Workshop; author of the Fighting Fantasy books and a ton of other credits) has written the Obituary for Gary Gygax in The Independent today.

One of the things that I found relly interesting was the following:

"In 1975 the Games Workshop, newly formed by Steve Jackson and myself, which then operated out of a flat in Shepherds Bush in London, signed a three-year exclusive European distribution agreement with TSR on the back of an order of six copies of D&D. A few years later, Dungeons & Dragons was a household name, its notoriety in part spread by an ill-informed media that linked the game to black magic and dark cults, which only added to its mystique."

Six copies secured GW the exclusive European distribution deal! How times have changed!

Music Non Stop - Stops

My favourite online alternative  Music Store has closed down :(

It seems they're emailing their customer base this afternoon as I received a mail and know that otehrs have too.

This is a real shame :(

It is with great regret that we have to announce that after 9 years Music Non Stop has now officially stopped trading. Despite our never-ending efforts over the last 12 months, and a concentrated attempt to soldier-on in some form or another in the past weeks, it has regrettably come time to call it a day.

There are a number of factors that have resulted in this sad conclusion, some of which include the current exchange rates of the Euro and the dollar against the pound, the lack of consistent ?big name? releases in this scene, increase in distributor and day to day running costs, and other methods now available of obtaining new music, to name but a few. We have always tried to deliver the best for our customers and have always put them first from day one and set high standards for ourselves. We have also tried our best to push and promote smaller labels and bands to try and help them get more exposure. We hope that in the time that we have been trading we have provided a service most people have been very happy with and we are just sorry that we are unable to continue. As a result we sadly have to report that all outstanding orders have had to be cancelled as we are unable to fulfil them. We apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause. Unfortunately we are unable to answer any emails on an individual basis. Paypal customers please contact Paypal with regards to a refund.

Finally - and this is the most important bit - we would like to thank ALL of the real music fans and customers that have supported MNS over the past 9 years (WE and YOU know who you are ), The labels ( especially Out Of Line & Trisol ), The Distributors ( especially Audioglobe ) and the friends ( especially the Infest crew and Bernard and everyone at Side-Line ). You are the people that have kept this scene alive and will continue to do so.

Thank you and we wish you all the best.
