Old Friend

Philip José Farmer (January 26, 1918 - February 25, 2009)

RIP: Philip José Farmer.

His Riverworld series was one that I read several times since my father introduced the series to me in the early/mid 80's. I also read his Dayworld Trilogy. I didn't really explore the rest of his work but Riverworld was a very enjoyable series (it also got turned into a roleplaying setting with the release of GURPS Riverworld in 1989) and the one that stands out for me.

Farmer had a good run though, he was 91. Might dig out Riverworld again for another read to honour his passing.

RIP: Philip José Farmer.

Cure Tribute Songs...

My favoruite three tracks from this weeks NME free CD "Pictures of You - A Tribute to Godliek Geniuses: The Cure".

1. The Big Pink - Love Song
2. The Dandy Warhols - Primary
3. The Get Up Kids - Close To Me

I'd never heard of The Big Pink before but their version of 'Love Song' is brilliant. So slow and haunting. They're signed to 4AD and I'm now going to have to try and track down some of their stuff.

The Big Pink and Dandy Warhols tracks are up there with two of my other all time favourite Cure cover songs - both of A Forest - one an easy listening version by Nouvelle Vague and the other a goth/thrash version by Creaming Jesus.
