GIG 088: Fireworks Party - The Dandy Lion, Barnet 03/06/91

GIG 088: Fireworks Party - The Dandy Lion, Barnet 03/06/91

Some gigs stick with you forever, others are just a footnote in an old diary.

I've no idea who the Fireworks Party were or what they were like. They played our local student/indie/rock night which we went along to mainly for a bit of Monday night socialising and dancing as opposed to see the band. The band was an added bonus (when they were good) or an pause between making a mess a mess of ourselves on the dancefloor (when they weren't so good).

Fireworks Party sadly fell in to the latter as can be seen from my notes on the night and also the fact that I can't remember them in the slightest.

GIG 089: Shake - The Dandy Lion, Barnet 30/06/91

I saw Shake a bunch of times as they were a local band. They were always decent live but I think we were all probably slightly biased due to the fact that we knew them and they "weren't that bad".

As with most Monday nights at the Dandy Lion the night was more about dancing and seeing friends than seeing the band.

GIG 090: Creaming Jesus / Nutmeg / Working With Tomatoes - The Borderline 20/07/91

GIG 090: Creaming Jesus / Nutmeg / Working With Tomatoes - The Borderline 20/07/91

It was Saturday night and Creaming Jesus (then one of my favourite live bands) were playing the Borderline. Was there any doubt I'd be there?

Creaming Jesus always had a fantastic energy around them and the mosh pit (something many people don't equate to 'goth' band all that often) had the right balance between physical yet friendly. You knew you were going to get some hits but nothing you couldn't take ;)

The support bands were both ok, nothing spectacular but Creaming Jesus were (as so often) great.

After the gig a large group of us descended on a popular old haunt of mine... The Catacombs in Manor House. The Catacombs was the first club I had been to and I pretty much lived there most Friday/Saturday nights from the ages of 16-18 - eventually abandoning it to Full Tilt at the Electric Ballroom and Rock at the Astoria.

I still have very fond memories of The Catacombs. It was a really nice little goth/metal/alternative club :)
