Heresy Trials to be Renewed in the UK?

Continuing todays vein of 'Christian' posts I just saw this on nocturnia's LJ and thought I'd share. Basically the Church of England are thinking about reintroducing Heresy Trials for vicars who don't believe in key doctrines.

It has always surprised me that some vicars (and I'm guessing ambassadors of other faiths) don't actually believe in the foundations of their faith.

Religion is not like a political movement. You can't go 'these policies are good, these don't make sense' in religion like you can with politics. How can you preach religous srmns in a faith when you don't believe in the resurrection or the virgin birth yourself?

Gee...maybe I could be a vicar afterall! I hear the pays not bad and you get your own company home. You even (presumably) get first dibs on the afterlife and paradise so the retirement plan is pretty sound.

I must admit I'm the same: I really cannot, for the life of me, understand why you would *want* to be a Vicar in a Christian church if you basically didn't believe in Christianity.

I guess it can be a job for life as long as you don't do anything with the choirboys. Even that might not hurt your prospects!

Heresy, by definition is that one follows the same basic faith, but the specifics of said beleif are different from that endorsed by the faith.

Example, in my own view of Christianity, as a christian, I should not be meek. "The meek shall inheret the earth" is a threat as far as I'm concerned.

The question is not weather you are a Christian or not, but weather you are a C of E Christian or not.

I'm a heretic to every established Christian church I'm aware of, and proud of the fact.
