Deferred Success????

I'm sorry but BOLLOCKS. "Deferred Success"??? What the hell next??

"Deferred success" should replace the idea of failure for low-achieving pupils, a teachers' organisation will hear at its annual conference.

Teachers Say No One Should "Fail" (BBC News Online; Tuesday 19th July 2005)

You have clearly deferred your success at keeping your temper.

The US government has deferred its success in finding WMDs in Iraq.

I dunno... I like it! We should all keep warm by re-reading 1984 and underlining the bits that're coming into common usage.

Not 1984...
"Brave New World" and "The Space Merchants" both have massive resonances.

yeah, and I'm not completely useless at tennis, I'm a deferred Wimbledon champion... deferred to the next life probably, but still... ;-)

Seriously, I heard this on the radio while I was driving to practice tonight: totally and utterly ridiculous!

If I breed, I'm going to put my kid up for their PhD exams at 4. Maybe help them set up a consultancy at 7 and retire on their earnings.

They can't fail, I can't lose.

PC bullshit.

Some people are good at academics, some aren't.

It does not mean that some are better people than others.

Don't change the system so that a child doesn't fail by trying to ignore their inability or unwillingness to learn.

Teach them to not identify themselves through their results. Teach them to not take a fail grade as an end but as a beginning. People who fail are not unable to do something, they just haven't been doing it right.

Although, managing to fail these days takes a lot more effort than it used to.

It's like the PC bullshit in Ireland where Honours and Pass were changed to Higher and Ordinary. What's the difference? Only the name. The faster that these agencies accept the fact that not everyone is cut out for academical study the better off these people will be. College education and high marks should not be the norm, they should be the choice of those who want them.

Over here, college courses are being made "easier", because we have free fees and a stupid amount of people doing courses. I mean seriously. I have severe objections to changing a course so that more people with less ability can get degrees. It is not a good system.

You end up with a workforce (like we have at the moment), where the question in the interview isn't "have you a degree?", it's "so what did you do your thesis in?".

Bleh. I'm in a bad mood tonight.

Surely deferred success implies that success is just around the corner ... what if they never succeed? Is that indefinitely deferred success? Or have they then been mistakenly credited potential success and will find it appearing on their tax bill?

Just think ... someone has been paid to think this stuff up.

A nation of Dreamers

One day I'll be rich, one day I'll be happy

One day my Dream will come, I don't have to do anything for it, all I have to do is wait here and someone will bring my dream to me.

Oh behold, I'm old now, my dream never came, my life is wasted, why did they lie to me, why did I not try harder.

Three questions the idiots in charge of this plan should be asking

I'm deferring my succesful payment of tax.

Careful, or the government may defer their success at recognizing your civil liberties.

totally agree with what you posted, students get it so easy now, alevels you used to have to do all of it at the end of two years and that was it-now they can resit each paper upto 4times!

education in britain is a joke
