Scotty Beams Up

I was never a fan of Star Trek but  did watch it as a kid. Scotty was always a favourite so it's sad to hear that James Doohan has died. I also saw the ST:NG episode he was in which was one of the best I saw of those (although admittedly I've probably only seen a handful of the whole show!)

Star Trek's Scotty Dies Aged 85 (BBC News Online; Wednesday 20th July)

Relics is indeed a fantastic episode.
I really need to find some spare money somewhere and replace my taped off the telly tapes with the DVD box sets...

I guess I've never told you about the idea I had for a TNG episode that would be a sequel to relics, entitled: "The Court Martial of Montgomery Scott".

The basic plot was that Geordi tells Picard what Scotty had told him about how he used to lie to Captain Kirk about estimates for repairs (during critical situations) so that he would end up looking good... with Picard then bringing him up on a charge. Basically, you'd have the usual toing and froing (with Riker as prosecution and Data as defence) with lots of twists and turns and the opportunity to show video evidence (i.e. clips from TOS) before at the end of it Picard finds Scotty guilty and he gets sent down to the penal colony on New Zealand.

But having pointed out that I didn't like the character (or TOS) come to that, it would be disrespectful of me to not point out that I think Jimmy Doohan was a pretty cool guy and it is sad to hear that he's gone. You know he was a Canadian soldier in WWII and actually went ashore on Juno beach on D-Day?
