The Nephilim

I forgot how much I really *really* enjoy The Fields of the Nephilim until this evening. I got involved in a thread on a forum about requests for a special 'The Best of the Last Ten Years From Full Tilt At The Ballroom' (catchy name huh?) which is taking place at Gossips on Friday 23rd April with the old Ballroom DJs.

I suddenly started recalling a load of bands I really enjoyed dancing to years ago (Young Gods, CNN, KMFDM, Sheep on Drugs, etc) which has resulted in an evening of playing a load of old CDs. The current of which is Fields of the Nephilim 'Reflections' - a sort of greatest hits compilation. They are truly gods.

I wish they'd start playing gigs in the UK again, it's been way too long since I last saw them and I rate them as one of the best live bands I've ever seen (and I've literally seen hundreds of gigs so that is quite an achievement).

In other news - I am officially jet-lagged. This is the first time a transatlantic flight has ever really knocked me out of rythymn. I don't know if it's just because I've been suffering from mild insomnia anyway which has added to it but my sleep pattern is definetly out. The weird thing is that several of the other Brits I've spoken to who also attended the Con in Vegas are also suffering the same effects. We reckon it's partially due to all that additonal oxogen the hotels pump in to keep you awake and gambling.

The Neph were great, i did the whole dusty coat and cowboy look during my gothdom days :)

I think most of the major goth bands from that period (with the possible exception of the mission?) have aged well. Moonchild is still amazing, Dominion still makes me want to cheer and woop.

T'was the golden years :)

oh btw... Angus, Wayne Hussey, twins seperated at birth?

The Mission still throw some brilliant live shows. I caught them late last year and they really rocked. They went through a very bad patch in the early/mid 90's but seem to be back with a vengeance. Worth checking them out when you get a chance (they are playing both Whitby and Dark City up in Edinburgh in a few weeks - neither of which I'll be going to...grrr...)

As for Angus/Wayne - haven't heard that one on-and-off for the last sixteen years!!! ;-p

Allegedly a new album is being recorded. So maybe a tour will happen soon too...

Re: Album
Let's hope. I picked up a new album from them a year or two ago. Can't remember what it was called offhand (it wasn't 'Zoon' as I got that and saw the tour back in '96 when it came out) but it was alright.

I can find the details if you want. Something else new would be great though - as would a tour. COME ON CARL!!!!

Re: Album
That would be fun. Nephilim were my favourite of the "Big 3" goth bands. I know a certain women who would be very pleased to see Carl on stage again too.

Re: Album
I think that was a dodgy situation where some record company got some demos and just released them. Carl seems to have finally updated the website though, I think Cthulhu had a hand in some of the scripting ;-)

At Gossips? I'm happy for the first 10 people who turn up.

Yeah, Gossips isn't exactly a 'large' club ;-p

I'll probably be there though - it's the Friday before Salute though so I'm probably working the next day (again!).
