I don't think it's that big of a deal. You can't use these types of devices to monitor someone by satellite as suggested in one of the articles. It's very short range, and you're basically just saving the border guys the time they have to take to type all that crap in. A company I worked for worked with the tech so I'm familiar with what their capabilities are, but just think reasonably: is something that small going to be able to put out a signal you can read from space?

You see alot of this type of transponder tech in the US: they use it here to allow people to pay road tolls electronically... in Austria they use them to automatically mail people speeding tickets.

And yes, I'd be happy to take a Canadian one if I was going into that country or any other nation, really. I get stopped at every single checkpoint a person can get stopped at, and anything I could do to make it go faster would be very, very welcome. I dunno why they keep stopping me: who ever heard of an obese terrorist?
