English Football League Kick-Off

Well, the English Football Season kicks off again today and both of my favourite two clubs are in action in brand new leagues.

Barnet play their first League 2 Game since 2001 against Bristol Rovers this afternoon after walking away with the Conference title last season. Hopes are high that the team will do well again this season with even a couple of pundits having predicted they could win League 2 for automatic promotion to League 1 next season. My hopes? Whilst automatic promotion would be lovely I'd be more than happy with a high placed finished and maybe getting into the Play-Offs.

Norwich are also back in action in The Championship after being relegated on the last day of the Premiership Season a few months ago. They are hotly tipped to win The Championship and get auto promotion back up amongst the big boys. I'm really hoping they will but The Championship has probably the strongest selection of teams ever within its ranks so it'll be a hard journey. In either case Norwich's journey starts this afternoon against Coventry.

Wonder how I'll be feeling in May 2006?

Best of luck with both. Me, I'd be delighted if come May my West Ham were still in the Premiership - it's gonna be hard but we can do it.

The Hammers don't start till next Sat (at home to Blackburn Rovers), here's to another 10 months of Saturday afternoons filled with high hoes, disappointment, frustration, and (rare) joy ;-)

Saying nought but "BASTARD LUTON" and why did we get a ref so incredibly & utterly shite.

I remember travelling through Luton back in the mid-90's after Norwich had just thrashed them only to realise I was actually wearing my Norwich FC shirt.

Not the wisest of moves on my part in hindsight :p

Travelling back from Millwall against the flow of the crowds (or should I say herds ?) of inbreds ............. well even Mugwall's knuckledraggers guessed who I was with after that. .......and it was, I'll say, an eventful night all round {eeeek}

Or back in the 70's trying to get back to Brighton Station whilst playing "tag" with the Weed after leaving their "Gallstone" ground.

Just a glimmer of some of the "sins of my youth" (well youth ish)

The Leagues under the Premiership are actually pretty good. Especially The Championship at present as it has some very good teams and players contesting the promotion slots into the money-spinning Premiership.

I guess I've always paid more attention to the 'lower' leagues because that's where the teams I actually support usually lurk :p I enjoy The Premiership but don't really have a 'Team' I avidly follow amongst their ranks (well, not since Norwich got demoted after a single season amongst the elite last term!). There are Premiership teams I'm glad to see do well (Charlton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham and to a certain extent Everton, Manchester City and West Ham) and teams that I'm glad when they have problems (most notably Manchester United and Tottenham which I guess will end my friendship with ingenue_the as she's a big Spurs fan...as is my youngest sisters boyfriend and to an extent my younger sister...whoops...)

If you ever need/have the desire to be filled in about "The Beautiful Game" and its lower leagues here in England please don't hesitate to drop me a line :p

Go Shrewsbury!

Go Bristol Rovers!

Go Spurs!

And go Arsenal (my sister's team...)

Spurs *and* Arsenal. That's an explosive mix :p

You're lucky I'm not ranting about Bristol Rovers today as they played Barnet yesterday and drew 1-1 with pretty much a last minute goal. Irritating thing is the Bristol goal was scored by Junior Agogo who was a Barnet player before he headed west! No former loyalty in the game is there!! :p

As I said, arsenal's my sister's team...so I must admit, I've seen far more of them recently than Spurs...
