Football Violence...

Just thank whomever that even at it's worst English football has never had the violence levels of South American club football!!

Argentine Footballer Shot in Riot (BBC News Online; Monday 12th September 2005)

Even worse, he was shot by police whilst trying to quell the riot on the pitch!

The English hooliganism are skewed by the fact that you can be arrested for stading on your seat, shouting abuse at the ref or possessing an alcoholic beverage (whether you're drunk or not). It's not the problem it once was. Except perhaps for Cardiff and Leeds. Even West Ham and Millwall seemed to have calmed down considerably.

Mind you, given West Ham's trouncing of Villa tonight, it looks like we're going to be two divisions above the sorry Lions soon.

Some years ago, the goalkeeper of the Columbian team was murdered after they were knocked out of the World Cup in the first round.

I remember that. He was assassinated sitting in a cafe. Not sure if it was the goalie though - although that make more sense.
