Germany & Poland Travels....

Well, I've known for a while that october will see me in Germany for a few days because of the large games convention in Essen. I've been for a number of years now and it's a truly fantasic experience. 150,000+ people over four days. The convention centre is massive and I've never been to anything that remotely competes on the same scale. Anyway, I'll be there mainly in my Leisure Games capacity hunting down those nice new board and card games that we can bring over to tantalize folk with. I'll also be there partially in my Cubicle 7 capacity though as I have a few meetings with some foreign publishers and distributors whilst I'm there. Oh, there'll also be some Essen parties to go to :p

It also now looks highly likely I'll be going on holiday (well, sort of holiday) to Poland for eitehr a few days or a week in late October or November. dates are uncertain yet but I'm hoping to stay with one of the publishers/distributors I know out there who have promised to teach me lots of new Polish games as well as showing me a bit of the country. A couple of friends have expressed surprise that I've chosen Poland to go on holiday too but I'm ratehr excited. I've never been to a former Eastern Bloc country before and my idea of a holiday doesn't usually involve sun, sand and sea.

I really need to save up some leave so I can go to Essen again, it was fantastic when it was still relatively small ten years ago.
Our gaming group always had fun to play new releases or pre-releases, vote for a Game of Essen which usually became Game of the Year the next year. ;o)

We were being cheeky, too, because we all got trader's passes from Doris&Frank (local game designers) and just marched past the queues through the trader's entrance half an hour before opening, carrying a box or two each. ;oP

Essen sounds stonking, but it almost always clashes with Gaelcon, unfortunately. :(
Oh, are you coming to Gaelcon? It'll be fun and beer filled, promise...

Essen is very stonking :D

I won't be at Gaelcon (what dates is it btw - just in case...) but I am hoping to come over to Warpcon in January!

It'll be my first trip to Ireland too which should be cool :D

Gaelcon is actually NOT clashing for once - it's on the final weekend of the 28-30 Oct. Well worth the trip if you can grab cheapass flights with Ryanair, it's usually a good laugh.

Sounds like a great idea, going to Poland, especially if you have pals to show you around. My sister-in-law visited Prague a while back, and she and her partner were so taken with it they thought they'd give Warsaw a try, but unfortunately were rather disappointed. The food is not great apparently...
