(Domestic) Defrosting

I know I should know how do this but it's never come up before (the joys of always moving I guess).

Our freezer needs defrosting. How do I do it?

Do I just swicth the whole thing off and let it flood everywhere? Do I do something else?

You know kids, sometimes being an adult isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I may have to ring mummy tomorrow for assistance.

Just so you know, some newer freezers have a hole in the bottom and some even have a little pipe to stick in the hole which controls the flow of the water into a tin or bowl. Check for this before flooding the kitchen. Also as ice falls out dont wait for it to melt and flood the kitchen, simply put it in the sink to defrost there.
