(Domestic) Defrosting

I know I should know how do this but it's never come up before (the joys of always moving I guess).

Our freezer needs defrosting. How do I do it?

Do I just swicth the whole thing off and let it flood everywhere? Do I do something else?

You know kids, sometimes being an adult isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I may have to ring mummy tomorrow for assistance.

Yup... all of the above advice is exactly what I would say. I do, however, have a tendency to attack the ice as it is defrosting with a hammer and chisel (or flathead screwdriver) to get out large chunks of ice and save more water from getting on the floor.

I should point out here that slipping with the chisel or screwdriver and putting a hole in the side of the freezer is *not* a good thing...
