Jade and myself both decided to watch 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!' this evening. This was the 1978 original film which includes a cast full of people that you've probably never heard of and many of whom only ever seem to have been in this one film! (At least according to www.imdb.com which shows a remarkable lack of credits for nearly every actor!).

For good reason too it must be said. ow 'Attack...' is considered a cult classic in some circles. A revitalisation of the 'B-Movie' in the 1970's...yada yada yada... well, it is amusing in an 'I'm pretty tired at the moment and this is really bad but still vaguely funny in places'. It falls into a similar camp as Airplane (1980) as far as humour goes, although obviously Airplane et al have refined the art a lot more.

You watch 'Attack...' and can't help wondering if you should round up a group of friends and film your own version of it. I reckon the results would certainly be comparable and it'd probably be a great laugh doing it.

Anyway, I am glad I watched it but I'm not sure if I'll be tracking down it's sequels (one of which, The Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988), apparently features a young George Clooney). The IMDB has it down as an average rating of 4.1/10 and I'd tend to agree. Certainly not the worst film I've seen this year (and the year is still young - pity me please!) but it won't be appearing on any 'Best of' lists come the end of the year either.

Attack of the Giant Mousaka! (2000)
"Around the year 2000, a terrible occurence shocks the city of Athens: a huge piece of moussaka appears on the city streets, spreading panic and death. Everyone keeps wondering: why, where, how, for what reason? But no one can give an answer..."

There is, apparently, an English language version available (probably just subtitles I'd imagine).

That's the one! It's really hard to get a copy in English - apparently it's very camp and very funny. :)

I sooooo need to find this for Maria and mock her heritage for it.
Too bad she doesn't like horror/bad scifi films...
