Jade and myself both decided to watch 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!' this evening. This was the 1978 original film which includes a cast full of people that you've probably never heard of and many of whom only ever seem to have been in this one film! (At least according to www.imdb.com which shows a remarkable lack of credits for nearly every actor!).

For good reason too it must be said. ow 'Attack...' is considered a cult classic in some circles. A revitalisation of the 'B-Movie' in the 1970's...yada yada yada... well, it is amusing in an 'I'm pretty tired at the moment and this is really bad but still vaguely funny in places'. It falls into a similar camp as Airplane (1980) as far as humour goes, although obviously Airplane et al have refined the art a lot more.

You watch 'Attack...' and can't help wondering if you should round up a group of friends and film your own version of it. I reckon the results would certainly be comparable and it'd probably be a great laugh doing it.

Anyway, I am glad I watched it but I'm not sure if I'll be tracking down it's sequels (one of which, The Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988), apparently features a young George Clooney). The IMDB has it down as an average rating of 4.1/10 and I'd tend to agree. Certainly not the worst film I've seen this year (and the year is still young - pity me please!) but it won't be appearing on any 'Best of' lists come the end of the year either.

SotD was actually very well made and is a good film.
As to friends, three of mine are in it. :oP

I didn't mean to imply that SotD was not a well-made movie. I enjoyed watching it a second time very much indeed. The script is tight, the effects are superb in their simplicity, and the acting is flawless.

I was merely implying that it was so inspiring that it made me want to go out and make my own zombie film with my own mates in it! I have already starred in a small made-by-mates vampire movie, and it is so bad would give 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' a run for its money, but only from lack of proper investment.

Ah, that makes sense.

I hope that wasn't Razor Blade Smile, or was it? ;o)
