Jade and myself both decided to watch 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!' this evening. This was the 1978 original film which includes a cast full of people that you've probably never heard of and many of whom only ever seem to have been in this one film! (At least according to www.imdb.com which shows a remarkable lack of credits for nearly every actor!).

For good reason too it must be said. ow 'Attack...' is considered a cult classic in some circles. A revitalisation of the 'B-Movie' in the 1970's...yada yada yada... well, it is amusing in an 'I'm pretty tired at the moment and this is really bad but still vaguely funny in places'. It falls into a similar camp as Airplane (1980) as far as humour goes, although obviously Airplane et al have refined the art a lot more.

You watch 'Attack...' and can't help wondering if you should round up a group of friends and film your own version of it. I reckon the results would certainly be comparable and it'd probably be a great laugh doing it.

Anyway, I am glad I watched it but I'm not sure if I'll be tracking down it's sequels (one of which, The Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988), apparently features a young George Clooney). The IMDB has it down as an average rating of 4.1/10 and I'd tend to agree. Certainly not the worst film I've seen this year (and the year is still young - pity me please!) but it won't be appearing on any 'Best of' lists come the end of the year either.

Show some respect!
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a great, GREAT film.

OK, maybe not, but it is one of those films which was spawned/help spawn the Godlike- Troma Films.
The greatest film studio on Earth.

With an operating budget that runs sometimes into hundreds of dollars this low budget company came up with one of the greatest ways of making a film...

1- Find a really, REALLY cool title.
2- Base the movie on the title. Nothing else matters!
Attack is OK. You wanna see low budget, REAL B Movie stuff, then spend your life hunting down these gems...

Surf Nazi's Must Die!
Blondes Have More Guns!
Cannibal! The Musical.
Blood Sisters of Lesbian Sin!
Ferocious Female Freedom Fighters (I and II)
Class of Nuke 'Em High! (I, II and III)
Meat for Satan's Icebox
A Nymphoid Barbarian in Dinosaur Hell
Pterodactyl Woman From Beverly Hills

Dead Dudes In The House
Rockabilly Vampire
Strangest Dreams: Invasion of the Space Preachers
Fertilize The Blaspheming Bombshell
I Was A Teenage TV Terrorist
