Second Goth Story in the News.....

More goths in the news. We're becomign popular it seems...er, although I'm not a goth...ahem.  I'm also wondering if this is the same Dave Simpson that I knew from the scene years ago....

Couldn't agree with you more about not "growing out of it" if it's who you really are. I'm (too far) into my thirties, and my parents have long since stopped expecting that, or caring one way or the other (although, bizarrely, my sister asked 'Are you still a goth?' at a family do last year). Whenever I hear someone say 'I used to be a goth', my first thought is 'No, you *really* weren't'.

I suspect that what's really being talked about here, though, given the mention of Camden, is the people - most often teens - who wear full-on clubbing gear to go shopping. That can look a bit silly, sometimes, and I mostly just smile and think ' Aww, how sweet'. The trick for 'grown up' goths is finding something that doesn't make you look as if you're trying *too* hard but still lets you be who you are. Of course, people like the aforementioned silly cow then don't actually realise we're goths - because she thinks it's only about the OTT outfits.
