Germany vs Italy

Wow. What an entertaining match. It was nice to see *for once* both teams play actual attacking football and for the Italians not to overact and cheat their way to victory.

Two goals in the dying seconds of Extra Time too! Glad it didn't go to penalties but I am (and I never thought I'd ever say this) sad that Germany didn't make it through to the Final (given the choice of them of Italy). It seems that all the teams I'm hoping to win are doing exactly the opposite at present (apartf rom in the France Brazil match). Am hoping for France to beat Portugal tomorrow although with my earlier logic maybe I should hope for a Portugal win if I'm to see France in the final on Sunday? :p

Babelfish translates that as 'German foam' but I think I can guess what you mean :p

I want the cheating bastard Italians smushed!

Portugal for me. They beat the home team, now they have to win.

Germany were lucky to get as far as they did so I'm not in the least surprised (unlike millions of fans, it seems) but I'm very glad they lost fair and yjr better team won.

I was rather hoping that Germany would win the World Cup, if for no other reason than it would completely screw up the favourite chant of England fans. "Two world wars and no world cups on aggregate' doesn't scan anything like as well.

I don't think it would have made much of a difference to the chant. They already lead us 3-1 on World Cup aggregate, and I don't see anyone chanting "Two world wars and minus two world cups on aggregate."

Up there with Argentina v Mexico as the best game of the tournament. Everything about last night was good - great play, players acting as "real men", close game with two teams giving no quarter, and decided by two great goals.

Italy have continued to get stronger through the tournament (and hopefully Gary Lineker can stop making England comparisons along the lines of "when Italy play negative it's the Italian way, when England play negative they get slammed" - the difference being that the Italians can like, pass to their own players and shit). Must be favourites now, and rightfully so. Germany put up an excellent showing considering the youth of their team.

On one level I hope Portugal win tonight - for the amusement value to me of Everton having more representatives in the World Cup final than Liverpool. But I also want to see that old stager Zidane grace a world cup final like he did against Brazil - he was awesome. Be a fitting end for a truly great player.

*nods* I saw some of the germany-italy game and it was good. That means I watched football for about the fourth time this world cup with england not playing! I am deepy concerned for my sanity...what has happened to me?

But then I suppose the other games have been way more interesting than when England have played :)

Italy for teh win :D :D

I too was rooting for Deutschland but Italy really deserved the win for those two awesome goals.

Italy vs. Germany your comments
You absolute idiot!

The Italians play 'playful' football and England, like a lot of other countries, should take lessons from them how to play! That's why they got so far! Don't be so ignorant - that is not 'cheating'. One of the footballer's faces from Germany was enough for me..bad tempered and arrogant..certainly glad Germany was defeated once and for all !

Yay - we are all cheering for Italy to win Sunday!

I hope Italy play as well on Sunday as they did against Germany in the semi's. I'm still rooting for France to win though - but that's for family reasons ;p

The Semi was a great match but sadly some of Italy's earlier matches were not so great (The match against the US and then the run-up to the last minute penalty against Australia being two instances).

I would love to see England play more 'playful' football - but I don't want to see them start diving like some of their continental cousins do. We've already see a few English players taking note and copying some of the less savoury tactics in their games and I, at least, cringe whenever I see any player trying to dive or get anotehr player sent off.

I'm all for the Ref's being able to see action replays of incidents and booking more people for 'dishonest' play or dissent.

Whatever though, roll on tomorrow night. Should be a good one :)
