America - The Brave

Well, it seems that a lot of my American friends have had an upsurge of anti-administration feelings in the last 24 hours. The hornets nest certainly seems to have been disturbed even more than usual.

I'm glad these latest problems have come about now before the mid-terms as hopefully some good will come out of all the bullshit that the administration has been throwing around and a mighty backlash will hit them. I've also been interested to see more Republicans starting to turn on the Bush Regime as they have smelt the blood already in the water and a) don't want to be taken down with the rest of the White House posse and b) are eyeing up that soon to be vacant Presidency position as Bush can't run for another term (thank the Gods!).

Anyway, winterbadger reposted an interesting article from MSNBC Countdown (Special Investigations: Leading up to 9/11; Thursday 28th September 2006) which I've copied below:

RICE: I don’t think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center.

DICK CHENEY, VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: There wasn’t any way then we could have anticipated what was about to happen, of course, in—-on 9/11.

(1995, Philippines uncovers plot to fly planes into Pentagon and World Trade Center.)

(September 1999, U.S. study: Al Qaeda might crash planes into Pentagon.)

(Spring 2001, New York City trial testimony: Bin Laden sending agents to acquire planes.)

BUSH: These terrorists had burrowed in our country for over two years. They were well organized. They were well planned. They struck in a way that was unimaginable.

(July 2001, FBI told of Zacarias Moussaoui‘s interest in flying jumbo jets.)

(September 2001, FBI memo: Moussaoui could fly something into the World Trade Center.)

[The rest of the article includes details of how the Bush Adminsitration ignored advice from the Clinton Administration on how to deal with AQ, even refusing to study it until after 9/11, and how the Bush Administration ignored a pre-9/11 offer from the Taliban to turn bin Laden over to Saudi Arabia in return for easing of trade sanctions.]

I also liked this political cartoon by John Sherffius that muskrat_john pointed out (http://editorialcartoonists.com/cartoon/display.cfm/24649/)

America will never be lost as long as people speak their minds and cling on to the rights and freedoms that they have been granted for centuries. When someone - whomever they are be they schoolyard bully or corrupt government - tries to take the voice and freedoms away then people should stand up to them. I'm so proud of my American friends who voice their criticisms and opinions on the state of affairs that the current government has created.

Please carry on making your voices heard.

Regardless on how the rest of the world feels about America, America is still probably the single most important world power due to it's influence and muscle (however poorly those muscles have been treated recently). As such we, the world, needs people like you to stand up for what you feel is right and make America a better country and thus the world a safer place. Thank you.

Sorry that was the booze typing. Sometimes when I'm buzzed I tend to spell things like they sound. Ironically, it had been driving me nuts since I hit the post comment button after my first reply, having noticed it the first time. Then, apparently the error was on my mind while writing the second comment and I did it again.

Ah well, even though it does (sort of) cleverly illustrate my point, the fact is I can't claim to have done it on purpose.
