Sky TV

I am lucky enough to have a day off today. This close to Christmas it's pretty unheard of but I managed to wrangle it. Not least because Sky were coming over to set us up with satellite TV again and give us a new dish and Sky Box as the old is a) Sasha's and b) seems to be dying.

Anyway, the engineer was supposed to ring me before 9 to let me know a rough time to expect them. At about 11am I rang Sky and, once I got through their automated system (to help 'speed calls up' ... hmm) I was told that the engineer couldn't call because they didn't have my number on their records (which of course they took when I placed my order but let's not go there...) and the engineer had been at my house at 10am but no one was in so they cancelled the appointment.

So basically, even though I have actually been here all morning the engineer somehow managed to come here, find no one home and cancelled our installation. I was told they would have left a card but I can't see any evidence of a nice 'sorry we called but you weren't home' card anywhere near my house!

Basically the engineer was either too busy and cancelled on us without turning up or decided to do some last minute Christmas shopping which we're now paying for with no Sky TV until next week (They've rearranged for next Wednesday).

I was livid and had a merry arguement with the poor telesales person.

I was so angry I cancelled Sarah's visit this afternoon because I didn't want to see anyone whilst that annoyed. Luckily I've calmed down a lot now and having spoken to Sarah earlier she's still going to come over, just later than planned.

Anyway, still pissed off with the subcontractors Sky uses (a company called ABC Wireless Network - which I couldn't find any record of on the web unfortunately and then decided I was wasting my time looking) but such is life. Not having Sky for another week isn't going to kill anyone. It would have been nice for Louisa and Jade to have had it available over Christmas but they'll live.

Sky installations, I feel your pain.

When it works it is fab, but we are on our 3rd sky+ box,
and recently discovered that it only has half the hard drive it thinks it has!

What do you mean by 'it only has half the hard drive it thinks it has'?
If it claims to be a 160Gb box, it will actually have a 320Gb disk, but half is reserved for Skys use. If it's a 160Gb box and only has 80Gb, then you should complain.

Well, in this case it worked fine until it had only 50% free, where it refused to record anything else claiming no disc space available.
Luckily we rarly get down that low, but it is on my list of things to complain about. Especially as otherwise it works perfectly well.

Box 1 continually failed to record what we set it to record
Box 2 blew out a large spark 8 hours after installation and refused to work (when the new guy fiallyarrived to replace the box I said "Not brought another box?" he replied that he was told we had a sky + problem. "yes" I said "it blew up". "I'll get another box then" said the guy) I was rather annoyed that when I told sky the problem they couldn't send an engineer any quicker than usual, especially as it was a simple fix - put in a new box!

If there is a reset switch I'll give that a go.
But I assume I'll loose all my settings and recorded programmes if I do so I'll have to wait a bit. I do know there is a secret resetting menu but I can't remember which screen you press 0 on to get to it! :-)

I think there is a button at the back of the Sky box that resets it's software. If it goes completely before you get the new one try that. I remember when I was there it went completely ga-ga and was told to try that, which worked.

Go to know that the box has be useful at least, out aerial here is over 200 years old, looks like a cockrel and swings around whenever the wind changes...

So a bit like the time my package was apparently delivered to my office but no one was there to accept it? Despite the fact the office opens from 8am and we have major amounts of post delivered every day?

I mean the fact that the package had a copy of the rather large WoW board game in doesn't mean I should assume the postman couldn't be bothered so decided to leave it at the depot now should I?

Oh there was supposed to be a card from the postman too but no sign of that.... Got to love it.

I work for Sky. Would you like me to see if there's anyone I can pass your complaint on to? Not that I can guarantee anything will happen.

I've noted down the address I need to send complaints to. Going to see if I can get some compensation off them too, but I doubt I will. Doesn't hurt to try though :p

Thanks for the offer though. It's appreciated :)
