Dresden Files on UK SKY ONE February 14th

A number of you will recall my ravings about The Dresden Files series of novels by Jim Butcher. Some may even recall me postiung up the trailer for the new TV series that starts in the States in the next couple of weeks.

Now I'm mightily impressed that Sky One are airing the series in the UK starting on Tuesday 14th February - just a couple fo weeks after the US launch! That must one of the quickest US to UK transfers for a new TV show!

Anyway, the Sky One Press Release is here!

I know what I'll be doing on the 14th!! (Or certainly recording it...:p)

It starts on the US Sci-Fi channel this Sunday (21st) right before BSG restarts the rest of season 3.

Hopefully it'll be good, even with the changes made to make it more 'tv friendly'.

I've seen Fred's posts advertising them but I haven't listened to any as yet.

Mind you I've never listened to a podcast in my life! Guess I should start somewhere...:p

For podcasts I recommend Paul Tevis' www.havegameswilltravel.net - you can add the RSS feed to your LJ friends to get alerted to new ones.

Re Dresden - any idea when it's coming on a terrestrial channel?

It looks awful though, unfortunately.

And Bob is a person in it!

I don't agree with 'Bob as a man' but want to see how it actually pans out on screen.

24 has only just started in the states and it coming over here. I think shows with a large geek potential or fan base will be come over quickly to cut down on the bittorrenting.

Say the man who's got the first 4 episodes of 24 on his HDD.

If I had Sky I'd be right up for watching it. Sigh.

Bah! I don't get Sky :(

Let us know if it is worth getting when the DVDs come out.

Are they following the books or just using the characters? I still have Blood Rites and Dead Beat to read, so I wouldn't want to spoil those.

From the synopsis of the US opening episode/tv pilot it sounded like they were pretty much taking the plot from Storm Front (Book 1).

Fingers crossed :)

But you guys are getting Atlantis and SG-1 before we are in the States, that is really bending my brain stem.

There's nothing really odd about that. We start out many weeks behind the US but we can't stay that way when series take big mid-season breaks over there and we just take a week or two off for Christmas programming.

Sky experimented with US-style broadcasting, putting up new series pretty much concurrent with their US broadcast years ago but the gaps in the schedule caused when the US wasn't broadcasting new episodes really didn't go down well with the UK audience where the pattern has always been to have a series show all the way through, without gaps and Sky abandoned that experiment quite hastily. Now that more US series have that sort of gap-free programming, Sky can come back to almost concurrent broadcasting, with less chance of alienating their customer base.

Of course it does mean they're moving BSG to some other time. But I haven't seen any news on that.
