Dollars & Pounds

Holy Shit.

I just checked the exchange rate on XE.com and 1 UK Pound currently pretty much equals $1.99!!! ($1.98924 to be exact).

The heady days of £1 = $2 are pretty much almost here again. I'm thankful I'm living in the UK and will be heading to America on business/holiday this year and not the other way around!!!

I thought the dollar was on a recovery a couple of weeks ago and had managed to get back to the $1.86 mark!

If it was, it must have been for such a brief time that one could blink and miss it - It's been above $1.90 / £ all January as far as I've noticed (I shift money over every month to pay various US debts)

hmmm, doesn't look like Paypal's exchange rate is reflecting the current midmarket rate yet. I'll check that again tomorrow!

I really should figure out what my blasted xe.com currency trading login was, so I can use xeTrade directly to exchange funds. paypal sets their rates once a day, I suspect has a wider buy-sell spread off mid-market than xe, and charges a 2.5% fee That said, the rates I get using them are still pretty good - only a few cents on the dollar off from the midmarket (unless the midmarket makes a big move from where it was the previous day!)

And yet AND YET I'm still out of pocket an awful lot of money for imported WFRP books and trade paperbacks of Aquaman and stuff.

If it can just last until (or become even better by) payday, I'll be very happy...

It makes me ever more glad I now keep all my $ earnings in a $ account. And the best bit is it then feels like free money when I'm out there spending it!

Yeah, I do the same. And I'm hoping to push as much as possible over from the UK so as to get my student loans paid off as quickly as possible.

I just bought 2 BD DVDs AND 2 flamenco DVDs on Amazon.COM for this very reason.

Four (good quality) instructional DVDs for less than £30! w00p!

I concur.
It has its advantages for me, but also big disadvantages.

My ass just called. It said you owe it a kiss.

On the bright side, I guess a swing-by ol' Madtown may just be on the agenda for your US trip then.

Yeesh. I'll be keeping as much of my dollars back here as I can when I move, then. :-/

I know. I'm pissed. I finally got re-employed again, and can buy new clothes, only to find that it's going to be far too expensive with the exchange rate to have anything sent over!

Previously I was utterly disinterested in exchange rates, but now I'm selling PDF games through a US-based site it becomes more relevant! The numbers get rather less impressive when you divide by 2...

PS - Angus, I'm finding your LJ layout often vanishes the text in posts and I have to select/highlight it to see it.

Aye, pity that the money I have in paypal and on gambling websites are in $$$. Here's hoping some US imports (like gaming mats for example :-)) become a lil' cheaper as a result and it doesn't hurt the exportation of UK luxuries (like RPGs for example....)
