And One?

I know there are several people out there (DJs and music lovers alike) that listen to 'And One'. Can anyone tell me what the fuss is about? I brought their 'Virgin Superstar' CD yesterday to see what they are like and they largely seem to be a bit middle of the road turgidness.

I was hoping for something with a bit of a backbone or at least some darker vocals.

Too much that is cloaked in the 'EBM' tag these days is just a poor excuse for either wannabe boy bands (like the dreadful last Apocatyma Berserk CD) or sub-standard Erasure. It's quite depressing.

Other purchases from yesterday, music wise, include:

Vocies of Masada - Another Day
Rabia Sorda - Metodos Del Caos
Funkervogt - Execution Tracks
Funkervogt - Navigator
Hocico - Hate Never Dies (The Remix Celebration)
Conjure One - Face the Music (CD Single)
The Faces of Sarah - TwentyFour

I'm not keen about And One either.
I think I saw them live once, but they weren't memorable.
Frankly, I'm more into Project Pitchfork.
Now they ROCKED live!

I liked one song of theirs - and that's it!

I have no idea who 'And One' are. Obviously no great loss on my part.

A fortnight ago I spent several days listening to my old goth tapes( Sounds of New Hope,Monsters of Goth, etc) and ended up feeling somewhat depressed.Perhaps listening to XFM at work too much has rotted my brain but I feel swamped by mediocrity in terms of most current goth music.

Good tracks by And One include:-
Deutschmaschine (club remix) (not the version on the album)
Technoman (live). (better than the single)
Military Fashion Show
Get You Closer (club mix)
Tell Me Lies
So Klingt Leibe

And One have always been more of a Depeche Mode/synth-pop type of band than anything else.

What he said. They're one of those bands that has the occasional good track amongst swathes of so-so ones, so album shopping is a pain. Technoman(Live) appears on one of the EBM Club Classics compilations, which means you'll get a bunch of other good stuff if you buy it too. I've got 3 of those double CDs if you want to borrow them.

Pointed this way by imagnocean, and I shall merely add that And One, like many bands of that ilk, aren't *bad*, just rather insipid.

I've always thought of And One as a kind of 'diet EBM' band, though they went pure synthpop at one point. Unfortunately, they're one of those bands that never released a 'great' album, all the good tracks are scattered more-or-less evenly across their backcatalogue.

Yeah, what they all said. I bought 'Virgin Superstar' solely on the basis of one track, 'Panzermensch', and was sorely disappointed with the rest of it. I have since then enjoyed dancing to 'Deutschmaschine' in clubs, but have no intention of buying another of their albums and being caught out like that again...

(I might make an exception if there was an album where all the tracks were titled in German - they seem to go wussy when they go into English.)
