I've been skirting the edge of some kind of bug since last Friday and today it's finally caught up with me and demanded attention. As such I've had the day off and it's already 4.30 and I don't seem to have really done anything apart from feel icky. Louisa did come over to pick up mroe of her stuff and we hung out for a couple of hours over some food and MTV2 and chatted about her move and how things were going at work for her, etc. It was good to catch up as I haven't seen her properly in ages - even when she was living here!

I've also been playing the Pinsticker demo CD I've been sent. It is very good but I keep wanting to hear heavier guitar riffs in places and some angrier, harder rapping over some of the riffs. The music is good as it is but is a little bit mellow for my liking and could be spruced up. Steve was talking to me the other day about not being sure which way they should take the sound but I'm going to suggest playing up guitar and basslines a bit to see how that works. Also TotalRock radio should have played a track from the demo yesterday althouh I was out so didn't hear it. Mel, Steve and myself bumped into one of the DJs last week after the Lost Prophets gig in the pub. Mel literally bumped into her with my help and spilled an entire Southern & Coke all over her - but it got us all talking and resulted with hopefully some airtime for Pinstickers :p

I've suggested filming a London gig in the near future and then editting it up for Youtube and the myspace site. If that happens I'll certainly be linking some of the songs here too so you can hear what I'm going on about ;p

Last night I had a really good meeting/catch up with someone whose paths I've crossed on and off for the last 12+ years but never really spoken to. The first time was when he was developing a new cartoon series which they were also developing a card game for and he popped in to talk to us whilst doing some market research on CCGs. Then we bumped into each otehr at Activision's offices in Uxbridge in the late 90's when i was consulting on the then forthcoming Vampire PC game and he was there for something else, We also communicated briefly regarding some club nights he was running for a while. Anyway, we bumped into each other on RPGNet a c ouple of weeks ago in two seperate threads and he came along to Gameforce last Sunday where we chatted a bit about various things. Last night was an extension of those chats and I think were very good. certainly have a number of things lined up to look into and we may have a very nice, and themic, venue for a future Dragonmeet. I'm going to try and arrange a viewing in the next couple fo weeks (once Rosie's down here so she can come along too) and then decide whether or not we can make use of it. Can't say much about it as yet but as soon as I've checked it out I'll talk about it if we go for it. It does sound fantastic though (he adds cryptically).

Anyway, I should go and try and do something productive today. Even if it's clearing out some of my intray! The family is doing alright post-Grandmother. The funeral is going to be up in Lowestoft in about 7-10 days time I believe so I'll be popping up to my town of birth for the first time since my grandfathers funeral 5 or 6 years ago. Almost to the day I think. Thanks to everyone who sent me and my family their sympathies either by phone, text, in person or LJ comments.

It also amazes me how many people read this journal who either don't have an LJ themselves or, for whatever reason, haven't friended me. I've bumped into loads of people (whom I've not met before!) recently who stop by and read my inane ramblings - and a few of them have made me smile by admitting that it feels a little like stalking/spying (hehe...). Well hello to all my readers! Please feel free to post comments if you feel like it, or just say hi once in a while, or add me if you have a LJ account too so I can spy/stalk you back :p

Oh yeah, did anyone send me a copy of 'Destricted'? A copy of the DVD arrived a few weeks ago in a handwritten envelope and postmarked from London with nothing inside the envelope saying who it was from. I was just curious to why I've received it. Unless someone is hoping for me to watch it and then review it? Well, I've not had a chance to watch it as yet but in the spirit of receiving freebies I will try to watch it soon and thne post up a review. NOt entirely sure it's *my kinda thing* though. Then again it might turn out to be! We'll see...

Right, I *really* should go and do some work. (...and not play Puzzle Pirates...)

See you laters!

I got one from last Thursday from you with your phone numbers on (which I'm about to use in a few moments...). Sorry I haven't replied as yet but this week has been a bit odd. I've downloaded for the first time this afternoon since last week and am starting to go through the mail. I'll call you though. Probably will have done by the time you read this in fact! :p

I've got an old copy of Campaign cartographer I could lend you (its CC2 current edition is CC3 (http://www.profantasy.com/) if you wanted to buy the new version). Or you could buy CC2 plus the two supplements I have (Dungeon Designer 2 and City Designer 2) from me cheap and I can use the money to upgrade to the new software :p

For reasons of compatiblity I'ver never really tried CCn . These days I tend to design my dungeons with inkscape.

I does appear to have a win32 version for those of you still unlucky enough to be using windows ;-).

How useful you will find inkscape does ratehr depend on how you design your dungeeons. For me it works great - I tend to free hadn sketch a few lines , then more tediously conect all the segments. It's prolly worth a try though since as it Free.

Does it do cartography?
Feb. 22nd, 2007 10:00 pm (UTC)
I 'm not sure what you meant by this.

Inkscape is an open-source SVG editor. SO think of a free verions of illustrator and you get the idea. I don't think at the moment it has any special support of cartographi conventions - but a quick google shows other do use it for draing maps.

As I said it handles my needs, but they tend to be pretty simple really.
