I still maintain that Fields of the Nephilim are one of the best live bands around, and certainly one of the bets I have ever seen.
Even though last night wasn't the best I've ever seen them (they have a impossible task to beat some of their gigs of 15-20 years ago... eek, there's me now feeling VERY old :p) it was ablinder of a show. The old songs were greeted with so much enthusiasm and seen off with extended appluase and cheering that no one could not have been affected by the sheer adoration a sold out - and extremely packed and sweaty - Astoria crowd still have for Mr Mcoy, even if he rarely comes over to visit us any more.
The down side was The Astoria's irritating times policy. The Neph came on stage at 8.45 and finished their encore at 10.20. Dave and myself didn't get their until 9pm so missed the first 15 minutes. I have to remember that The Astoria stage times are earlier than every over venue courtesy of them wanting to get everyone out so they can clear the decks and get ready for their Gay nights post-gig.
On the upside we descended on the Intrepid Fox afterwards where I bumped into loads of people.
I wish every week could have a night like that.
