For the love of every f**king thing in the universe NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

How the f**k could the bloody BBC let this happen.

Catherine Tate was a bloody travesty in the Christmas Special. It was by far the worst Doctor Who episode I've ever seen.

Now she's bloody going to be the new Companion in Season 4. I think I may give up now. The woman (atleast in this role and the bits of 'comedy' I've seen her in) is more irritating than words could describe.

Tate To Be Doctor's New Companion (BBC News Online; Tuesday 3rd July 2007)

Sadly no Aprils Fool :(

I just really hope that they really reprise her character but I'm not being hopeful with this one :(

WHAT!?!?!?!?!?!?

I remember, after hearing her "nails on chalkboard" voice, thinking to myself 'Please, don't let this be the new companion'.

That's a terrible idea. I don't know a single person who thought that harpie was a good person.

Look, Dr Who will never be like the good 'ol Tom Baker days. I'm afraid it's time to send the current cheese to the cheesegrater of doom. Actually I watched the odd Tom Baker episode on YouTube - and that was fairly cheesy too. I suspect my memories are rose tinted.

Anyway, the kids will watch Dr Who, grow up, and remember how great it was...

Very true. :)

There's a reason I avoid watching shows I loved in my youth...

As I recall, the Donna character had calmed down a lot by the end of the episode and if they stick with that, rather than the aggravating, shouty Donna, it might not be unbearable. If Russell reboots her to the shouty version though, it'll be a serious mistake.

My girlfriend is obsessed with British comedy and has several DVDs of Big Train and the Catherine Tate Show. The upshot is that she's actually pretty damned funny, and I think she'll make a fine companion.

Seriously. The woman is multi-talented, and while Donna was an annoying character in "The Runaway Bride," I'm confident she'll be ok.

Or at least better than Mel or Perry.

She was fine in Big Train, so we can hope!

I think the best we can hope for is a modern Tegan.

She can act, she is a classically trained actor so one can hope for gods sake she does not fall into the sketch show over acting. The positive, one of the few, is that she has a great deal of chemistry with Tennant in RL so maybe it will work.

I am however concerned :(

RTD needs a good slap
The beeb is notorius for canbalising it's cast from other shows (eastenders espeiclayy), but by casting tate they have effectively tried to make Dr who another catherine tate vehicle.

It sucks
It will be shite.
I think RTD is trying to kill the show before he leaves.

Re: RTD needs a good slap
I thought this coming Christmas' episode was going to be RTD's last. Any truth in that you know?

Personally I'd just like to ask when is the Doctor going to get a heterosexual male companion who isn't a complete numpty. Micky finally got competent so they got rid of him. Captain Jack's great but there's the whole fancying the Doctor thing, can't he just have a companion who doesn't want to find out if there's a double bed hidden somewhere in the TARDIS?

Just a thought.

"I am bovered?
Do I look bovered?
Am I bovered though?"

Gads NO!
It was wrong for the 2006 Christmas special and it will be wrong for the new season, especially coming straight after Kylie!

I used to really dislike Catherine Tate after her first series of her comedy show. However I now find her incredibly funny and I think she will certainly add alot more sarcasm into Dr Who which it needs as the comedy is seriously lacking.

I think people have their own memories about how Dr who enchanted them as children and what they fail to remember is that they were Children and not adults. Now as Adults we expect alot more than we did but still expect that enchantment.

I think alot of people dislike Catherine Tate becasue she is popular and started the "Am I Bovvered" phenomenon. However her appearance on Comic Relief was good and I actually quite liked the Christmas Episode. Then again I couldn't stand Tom Baker. I was perhaps too young to appreciate him.

Talking of Big Train I always preferred Tracy-Ann Oberman, but of course she's already in the Whovian loop as a member of Torchwood.

Sorry, no Tates please!

On the male companion front why not Kevin Eldon? He already looks like an alien :P or possibly a member of Kraftwerk, as Bill Bailey will attest.

My vote is for Sally Sparrow (also my favourite episode by far!)

Acting for you, eye candy for me. Sorted.

But Martha will be on Torchwood. That could be interesting.

Jack should have been the next companion though. He's such a woman pleaser even if he is gay.

I love catherine Tate, I imagine she may be an acquired taste though.
