It's fair to say that I've been a bit worried about the film version of Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" Trilogy. I loved the books and they still rate as some of the best fantasy I've ever read. The ideas and setting was fantastic. The Daemons, the Witches, The Armoured Polar Bears, the Canal Gypsies, Sky ships, travelling between worlds, all of it.
Anyway, I finally saw a trailer for the first film adaptation this evening that made me go 'ooo' in a good way. It shows a lot more of the film than the previous trailers I've seen and it's given me hope that it could battle it's way into my Top Three films of the year. I also loved the daemon bit towards the end of the trailer :D

Saying that, there is a bit in the tariler where Lord Asriel (Daniel Craig) is talking about parallel worlds and he's called a heretic. So maybe they have kept some of the religion in.
I hope so as it was one of the things that really gave flavour to the book and is fairly integral to the main plot.
Both could work...
